I heard Loyd on SEN saying that Judd was not at the same level as Buckley, Voss and get this (Hird). He spent the next few minutes raving about times when Hird lifted Essendon*.

Well that's true, because he is above them.

So he is quite correct.

Caro said it was difficult for her to rate Judd compared to Hird, Voss and Buckley because she had only seen him in two Grand Finals :donk:

I heard Lloyd on SEN on saturday.

He thought Voss, Buckley and especially Hird were better.

Apparently Hird had a better all round game, could play in any position. Whereas Judd has suspect kicking.

He is seriously deluded and clearly shows his hatred of Carlton.

Buckley should not even be mentioned in the same vain as the others, overrated I always thought.

I think we've received a fair bit of respect since Friday night across the different media outlets. Of course their are the biased pricks who would never admit anything positive about Carlton, but that's just more heartache for them to endure, as we aren't going backwards in 2011.

The gushing over Judd is one thing but the lazy and dismissive attitude to those in the trenches with him is downright disrespectful.

Completely agree.

I find 'The Game Plan' and SEN when they have Dermie and Monga on..just no worth it.
Find it's safer, and less heartache to go with team selections on Fox cos they have Parko...and Wallsy on 3AW. That way you don't have to put up with too much Carlton negativity, cliches or 'yeah whatevers.'.
It's like planning a safe route around traffic jams.

He also thinks Dustin Fletcher is the greatest fullback to ever play the game. Anyone picking up a subtle pro-Essendon bias in his evaluations? :banghead:

I hadn't noticed until you just pointed it out, it was that subtle.

All I heard for the entire of last week from the anti-Carlton so-called "experts" was that we weren't going to win because our forward and back lines were "suspect" and wouldn't be able to handle the Swans. They also said that one area we should at least break even in was the midfield, because of our "super" onballers.

Then, someone writes an article about how Murphy and Gibbs really need to step up to help Judd out and then all of a sudden our "super" onballers are struggling, not going anywhere and need to lift dramatically in order for Carlton to improve as a team.....

So what happens then? On SEN on Friday night Monga starts banging on about how Murphy and Gibbs need to step up and starts carrying on like they have been in terrible form all year, they weren't improving and that Judd has done it all himself. Do you reckon he may have just took that story and ran with it? Well, it appears so because in the next segment he was asked how Carlton could possibly win the game (As he, along with the others had tipped the Swans) and his comment was "Through their superior midfield" :screwy:

Do these guys seriously get paid for this shit? He must have written his notes about our superior midfield the night before the article came out and didn't have time to update them.

I automatically know when someone has no idea about Carlton whatsoever when the first three names that roll off their tongues are Judd, Murphy and Gibbs..... We do actually have another 15 players on the field at the same time as these guys you @#$%&! morons!! :garthp:

Lloyd was a good player who kicked heaps of goals but he's not an authority on anything other than looking dopey.

The bar is always being lifted, so people can still claim we are underachieving.

Half the media people didn't think we would make the 8, to many of these people if we don't make the top 4 now it will be painted as a failure. Im still setting my expectations at top 6 finish, top 4 is possible though.

People said we were stuffed when we lost Fev, now he is gone, its all Judd, and if we didn't have him we would be stuffed :screwy:

If one player made that much difference, how come the Gold Coast aren't a half decent side because they have one G. Ablett?

Judd is great, but its a very stupid argument if we didn't have Judd we would be rubbish. Also isn't this the guy who shouldn't of won the brownlow? So he's awesome but, not brownlow quality?

Every club is reliant on their best players, we are fortunate enough to have not only one of the best players in the comp, but a once in a generation talent. Of course he helps massively, both with leadership and football ability. But outside the Sydney game, he probably hasn't been any better than last year, and we managed to win games which we would of lost last year (Richmond and Adelaide, even the draw against Essendon*).

Point is, who cares what others say, we are on the right track, we aren't a premiership chance yet, I don't think, but everything is pointing in the right direction. I think On The Couch they said it right, that we are more of a 2012 story as far as premiership talk goes.

Also remember the naysayers are mainly people who grew up with us as a power and hate us, and don't want to see us back up there.

Of course - because they are the only team that have pushed Collingwood so far despite losing by 30 points.

Didn't you know that Paf?

To be fair I always rated Voss and Hird but I put Kouta in that bracket as well. The knee injury definitely crippled him in the end but he could play anywhere and do anything. Bucks comes way after these guys and way after Judd. BTW I give Voss kudos for stopping Buckley achieving what he went to Collingwood for.

It's an inverse relationship.

The incidence of Anti Carlton bias (in the usual places such as the HUN) clearly becomes greater as the team improves.

The normal relationship of course is for bias to decrease with improvement - and respect to correspondingly increase. But this doesnt happen at all in our case.

In the case of the journalistic quality of articles in the HUN - those in charge of that paper know only too well that they sell more papers by bagging Carlton than they do by praising us.

They would of course never admit to this.

But you will find it more amusing as we go on.

This is because the whole anti Carlton thing will only have an even bigger lack of credibility overall as the hunt for new reasons to bag us becomes more and more desperate..

Which of course is exactly what occurs as we improve along the path of our steady progress towards securing the ultimate sign of football success.
