For those playing at home, we got absolutely spanked in the hitouts:

61 - 39

Mumford with 43.

Which had little impact on clearances of which we smashed Sydney.

What Carlos offers in other areas gives the team more than an even hit out tally.

Hitouts to advantage:

Sydney 13
Carlton 10

Hammers obviously much better than Santy in the centre bounces, but Santy was the perfect choice for last nights conditions. Even Polly Farmer and John Nicholls would've struggled to palm the ball to clear advantage.

Hammer is young as a ruck, hope we can keep and develop him.

thats because Warnock doesnt have a clue how to ruck when the ball is tossed up and not bounced

If it was the 70's , playing on boggy wet small suburban grounds Mumford would win a Brownlow and Warnock would be playing in the WAFL or SANFL.

But it aint and we'll see how the contest goes on a dry deck in Melb. I betting Warnock to pull Mumfords substantial pants down.

It might have been a wiser decision to rest Warnock and give Hampson a go in the ruck for four quarters.

Hampson is arguably a better match up for big Mumford.

What now for Hammer?

Continued development of the young kid....yep young kid.
Plenty of upside. Should start to peak around 2013-14.
More senior games in the future.
Injured fingers will mend.
Hopefully we can keep him on our list.

Hopefully Hammer will be in our side next round against Saints.Warnock was killed last night by Mumford.Reckon he missed Hammer bigtime.Warnock and Hammer work great as a team and should be played together as a team.

John's half-way to my point: we would have been shat on from a great height if it was dry weather and that was the hitout differential. Setanta was the right selection for this game, but don't discount Hammer next week and on-going so long as Kreuzer isn't fit to play AFL.

Yeah all our ruck options are still developing and it was great to see Setanta be so effective last night in his mixed role. He had a significant impact. Hammer is learning and we need him on our list.

Right now..... Setanta is clearly the better option.

Play Irish until Kreuzer is back. Hammer needs time in the Twos. A lot of time. Personally, I think he needs to learn how to play the game. He's never really looked comfortable out there. In fact, I reckon Setanta looks a more natural footballer - and that's saying something.

Give Hammer a couple of years maybe, but right now, Setanta is the better option.

The Hampson forward / ruck plan should be put to rest for a while. Hampson can hold down first ruck though so if anything comes up with Warnoch or he needs a rest then Hampson will be the perfect replacement.

For now he can go back to the twos and get his touch back. Its been a tough start to the season for him after having a good preseason. Needs to get his hand right too. Tape all over it of late.

We will need so see Carlos in the dry to see if he really is the go. He is not known for his marks or holding form for longer than 4 weeks at a time. He also struggles to see a season out.

Played a nice game last night.

At the moment Ratts has lost faith in Hammer ( not to say he could get it back after a solid month in the bullants) He is keen to play any other fit ruckmen , there just hasn't been one for many weeks. Irish was lucky it rained and conditions suited him last night. And will now probably be selected next week.

Seems Irish should be given another game on the strength of last night. Also a tall option in defence on the Volt if needed. If Hammer carrying hand issues best he should rest next week and over the bye. Then regain touch in the two's.

Whatever the option we do have options. My hope is that we don't rush Kruezer back. Let him get the knee as strong as possible and build his match fitness. Happy to see him play around July and have at least 3-4 games at the bullants.

You don't think Kreuzer and Warnock will be peaking by then?

What if Mitchell or Casboult develop as that key forward who rucks?

Hampson needs to start showing something that resembles a consistent AFL footballer who can do something other than tap a ball or he WILL be left behind.

Pretty sure Casboult is the one who's being left behind. Has shown more as a ruckman at stints in the pre-season than he did as a forward in the same games. Not an AFL forward's bootlace at the moment, Levi.

Why are some of you in here so fascinated with Hampson???

He cant mark the ball. When he does mark it, he cant kick the bloody thing!!!

He's been on our list for 5 years now...how much more development does he need?

At this current rate, he wont be ready to pay till he's 30.

GET RID OF HIM!!!
