Bravo DannyBoy................Reckon you have nailed it.No maybee's about it,our structure is shithouse. No CHB,no CHF,no FF,and to top it off our midfield dont kick enough goals.Yet with these huge limitations we are travelling pretty well.................our coaching panel have come up with a solution to counteract these limitations. So maybee,we are doing a whole lot better than we are given credit for.As Ratts would say "its early doors",but so far,so good.

PS............i gleaned a faint glimmer of hope in young McCarthy in the magoos. To all you good judges out there, can he step up sooner than later.

Really good post dannboy. I was just saying to someone today that i have been getting really angry at the footy this year. A couple of years ago when we were starting to win some games footy became enjoyable for the first time in a long time. Now i just cant see us going anywhere. Other clubs have really good young 18-19 yo's coming through. Our drafting over the last 4-5 years hasnt been great in terms of the under 18's we have drafted. Judd is getting older, there is the uncertainty of Murphy, Gibbs is giving me the shits, poor Kreuzer is injured and may never be the same again.
I cant help but wonder if we have missed the boat and may have to rebuild again. Our poor conversion at goal annoys me. There is something not quite right at the moment.
I am just plain angry.

na we haven't missed the boat

its just that our boat doesn't attract the attention of all the confetti throwers

its a good boat at the moment, just needs a few tall masts so the sails can catch the wind....

I think patience is our key. I thought we were very lucky at the last draft to pick up so many potential key positions options now we just need to buuld up thier bodies and work on the deficiencies.

We do have some talls on the list who have shown they can or will play good AFL football but like most youngsters they are a bit up and down at present and need to build up their bodies. IMO we were very lucky at the last draft to pick up so many potential key positions options but they aren't ready now. So I think our structure is the best we can do at the moment for a varity of reasons ( bad form, returning from injury, still developing, etc.) However one thing we do have going for us is a group of players who put their head over the ball, go hard and run the game out. It's been a while since we have come back in the last quarter to win a match or refused to be beaten.

Could we use a fully fit Kreuzer, an in form Henderson, another big tall defender, a second ruckman taking contested marks in the forward line and scoring goals? Yes. Do we have anyone in the reserves fit in form and capable of filling these roles at present? No. Are our kids working on these issues - yes but it takes time to improve and constant repetition.

What I don't understand is Watson is already in our best back 6. He is the second best fit Key Position defender. His better than White or Laidler at Centre Half Back Now & Lucas is better than Joseph. We have good young talent but we don't risk developing them early. They drift along at Preston until they are 21. I want a few of them thrown in to the mix like Silvagni in 1985 and Walls is 1966. Development is an intellectual concept. Throw the off the deepend and let them experience the real world

Ah ! a man of my own heart.Throw caution to the wind and have a go.No guts,no glory.I would not hesitate to chuck Watson back in.Let him learn the hard way................no pain,no gain. And i would very much like to chuck McCarthy in for a bit of a taste. And please,i will scream if i hear another person say "there not ready yet".They never are and there is never a good time.I am a massive fan of Irish,TBird,Scooter,Houla etc.............but its time to move on and give the next wave a clear run.

However if you remember correctly SOS missed the 1986 grand final because thw MC thought he wasn't ready. Debuted and played a few in 1985 a lot more in 86 and then 87 came into his own. Watson has shown that he has a thumping kick but from what I have seen he is not strong enough to wrestle front position with the key forwards at present. Even in the VFL some of the bigger guys seem to just throw him around. He has the size but either he doesn't know how to use it or he doesn't have the muscle at present so more time in the gym won't hurt.

Maybe we can still fly under the radar!

Maybe the footy world will start to show some respect...

Maybe we are just starting to grow up......

Maybe the coaching team we have in place is making a difference.....

......and just maybe, Ratts is doing his job!

gidi-up
