Beyond our control so it's pointless worrying about it. All we can do is offer players fair payment and the ball is in their court from that point on.
You dont sell the farm to keep players.

I guess one difference between Murphy and Ablett is that Ablett had already won 2 premierships with the Cats and this year was always going to be their last tilt at the flag.
On the other hand Carlton are on the rise and hopefully on the brink of success. You'd think/hope that Murphy would want to stay around and enjoy the fruits of his (and teamates) hard work.

If he goes, then so be it - we will get compo (2 X 1st round picks) - no point getting too worked up about it until a decision is actually revealed at the end of next season (or if a contract is signed with the club).

Regardless of what happens, barring injury murphy will play all games next season and make a significant contribution to the team. Thats all that matters.

It's all ok - ...the GWS List Manager doesn't commence working for them until January...apparently this list manager was a one club player himself, and his father played league footy as well, so he and Murphy have something in common...his name is on the tip of my tongue...Stephen someone...starts with an 'S'...played for Carlton...

...he wouldn't would he? :yikes:

Not so sure we would get 2 first round picks as compo. Geelong got that for Ablett because he was a browlow medalist and an elite player, not sure Murphy is in that catagory just yet. We will find out what sort of character Murphy is.

Look at the knob who wrote the article -Hutchison.

Poor Craig was the only person on earth who though Ablett would stay at Geelong.

His best work is done jumping out of bins in LA.

GWS would have rocks in their head if they weren't targetting Murphy. And Swan. And a heap of other quality players.

What will be, will be.

But if I worked for Carlton, I'd be taking young Murph off for a quick tour of the delights of outer Western Sydney. Mt Druitt, Rooty Hill... it's an awesome place. Bring his girlfriend too. Shout them both lunch at Pizza Hut (that's about as good as it gets). Then maybe take a drive from Western Sydney to the sort of suburb he'd want to live in up there. It'll take about 90 minutes each way in traffic.

Western Sydney ain't the Gold Coast, that's for sure.

That would be offset by age difference and having been a #1 pick that has performed well/continued to improve. Muprhy wont peak for another 2-4 yrs yet.

It's a bit different moving interstate at 18 than 24.....I dunno i'd like to think he'll stay but the whole Fev/GablettJnr/Judd thing has taught me that it's not the end of the world, your team and you supporting them continues post player.

I reckon it makes perfect sense.

If i was in charge of GWS, id be gunning for players EXACTLY like Murphy.

- Young
- Coming into their prime,
- Leadership qualities
- Possible X-Factor and 'Marque' status.
- Previous #1 draft pick.

Hell........... Why wouldn't you go for him.

Anybody who thinks GWS isn't looking at him would be stupid.

I hope he stays and becomes a 1 Club player and possibly and future captain. But,............. with that said,................. I wouldn't be suprised to see him at least interested in speaking to GWS.

You will find that Hutchy broke the Ablett to GC on the FS early in the year. His good mate Pickers gave him the mail.

But you wouldn't want to let Westie stereotypes ruin the truth or anything

And, FWIW, he could live on the Illawarra coast (Coledale, Austinmere, Thirroul, Bulli) and be 45 minutes from Blacktown, no sweat.

He won't go.

We have room to move cap wise, and if my information is correct (and this from an ex CFC Captain), there will be a change in coaching ranks in 2012 that should make MM happy.

If he or his manager utters these words " we are putting off talks until the season is over" he will be gone. Until then he is a Carlton player.

FWIW, Murph is looked after by Paul Connors and Lucy Mills...same as Chris Judd. I have little doubt that Messrs Silvagni, Allen and McConnell (all of whom know Marc personally) will talk to Connors - and Marc will, in due course, find out what his inflated value is worth.

Our offer will never match that of GWS...won't even come close. But the Carlton selling point to Murphy is far greater than money. Not worth worrying about unless Murph lets it affect him.

Dr.Sherrin you make a good point, about letting it affect him.

MM is a young lad still, certainly compared to Ablett. He'd be well served to try and hit this on the head sooner than later. If he lets this drag out, it will likely affect his game in 2011.

Or he could live in a multi million dollar home at West Pennant Hill and be less than 20 minutes from the ground. Seriously some people have NFI what they are talking about.
