Word on the street is that Toyota wants out of the AFL sponsorship. Ironically, all Toyota-AFL related sponsorships (AFL, Adelaide Crows, West Coast Eagles) cease at the end of the 2011 season. That'd also be coinciding with the end of the AFL's broadcast arrangements. And in December 2011, NAB ends its Official Partner Sponsorship with the AFL...that's worth $4 million per year.

Lot's of things for Hyundai to consider.

Hyundai A-League and Hyundai AFL?

Are Hyundai in a position to drop their A-League commitments?

Nothing to stop them doing both (aside from the extra cash burden).

I wouldn't have thought so. Naming rights might not be an option for them, but certainly mixing their portfolio to include one of the current NAB sponsorships or if Toyota pull the pin then having the current Toyota/Channel 10 deal might be better suited. They're only just now testing the water with Golf sponsorship, so very interesting to see how they view this and whether they think this is a better fit brand wise. If they do - then that doesn't bode well for Carlton, but it's certainly an interesting time for them given the opportunities on the horizon.

Don't hold your breath fellas...beyond November 12 - hold your breath. MARS will receive branding on the front of jersey for away games and the 'new' away jumper...and on the back for home games. Hyundai will be on the front of jersey for home games and on the back for away games if a new deal with Hyundai gets done.

Hey Doc do you know if this 'new' away jumper is going to be 'sky blue' and resemble something like the infamous MM jumpers?

No I don't...I'd be hoping for something closer resembling the Livestrong jumper...possibly with a touch more of an orange or yolk tinge to it working off our past heritage.

In support of the earlier comments from phoenix here's some pics from the Australian International Motor Show where Judd and Carlton featured quite prominently. The first couple of pics give you an idea of the scale that Juddy was, a pretty big deal when you consider the Sydney audience. Oh, the second car is the Blue drive thing that phoenix also mentioned.

Looks absolutely awesome...thanks for that Camel. Whilst part of their 2010 expenditure - as Phoenix so rightly stated; Blue-Will fits perfectly with the Blues and this does bode well for future creative sponsorship opportunity.

out speaking directly with a senior Mars employee today and provided an interesting view on their sponsorship:

key positive = ability to motivate their internal staff. Motivating and apparently the blues have been excellent at embracing the Mars business into the fold. e.g this year a sales exec spent match day in the coaches box.
key + positive as a useful local marketing tool for a 2 - 3 year window. (expected life span i would imagine for Mars)

down side? as it relates to being Vic specific and male focused.

Sounds like the blues are doing a great job integrating (well done), also demonstrates the challenge for all clubs to generate value for major business partners.

Yep. The Carlton/Mars deal is for 3 years, expiring December 2012.

Mars rectified this a little by becoming a major sponsor of the ANZ Championship (Netball). They spent $350k for a one year deal this year and got great ROI when you consider the TV coverage netball receives courtesy of OneHD/TEN. Be mad not to renegotiate that deal.

Carlton has to brand itself on a national level. So many Billboards in Melbourne last summer...wouldn't mind a few big ones in Sydney and Perth advertising interstate memberships and sponsors. You could even have one in the Harbour City with a play on words re: the Blues (the name of their domestic cricket and RL State-of-Origin sides)...given some thought - could be quite clever.

...and hypocritically speaking, Mars is a non-vegan company.

FWIW Hyundai released this today...

Quote:
Hyundai Tees Off At The JBWere Masters

2010 marks the commencement of an agreement which will see Hyundai Motor Company Australia partner with Australia’s premier golf event, the JBWere Masters Golf Tournament for three years commencing 2010 through to 2012.

Geoff Ogilvy has confirmed he will tee off in the 2010 event, alongside Australia’s top ranked player Robert Allenby, internationals Sergio Garcia, Camilo Villegas and Tiger Woods who will defend his 2009 title at the event.

On board as an ‘Official Associate Partner’ and supplier of the ‘Official Car of the Tournament’, Hyundai will showcase the sophisticated all-new i45 mid-sized sedan as the flagship of the sponsorship. The i45 fleet will chauffeur all players, coaches and officials around Melbourne, and to and from the Victoria Golf Club during the lead-up events and tournament.

Twenty-four i45 vehicles adorned with JBWere decals will operate with the addition of iMax eight-seat shuttles and iLoad vans completing the event fleet.

“We are delighted to partner JBWere for this prestigious international sporting event,” said Hyundai Motor Company Australia’s Marketing Director Oliver Mann. “The fleet of new Hyundai i45 vehicles will be on hand to transport many of the world's golfing elite as they participate in what will undoubtedly be a great event."

As part of Hyundai Motor Company Australia’s ongoing commitment to corporate citizenship, a charity hole-in-one competition will be in place during the tournament. The first professional golfer to land a hole-in-one on the 14th hole will secure a Hyundai i45 Premium model for the JBWere Masters nominated charity 'Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation'. The charity will be able to use the car as it sees fit to raise funds for this important cause.

The JBWere Masters Golf Tournament will be played at the Victoria Golf Club from 11-14th November 2010.

id be very surprised, if Hyundai dropped the A-League.

Once again, those in the AFL have a closed mind when it comes to these things. Hyundai sponsor several leagues/club and even world cups, so they are firmly intrenched in football around the world, combine that with the likely hood of Australia getting the WC, i dont think they would be dropping the a-league anytime soon.

whilst the afl maybe the big dog in australia, it is nothing on the world scale, and for Hyundai, i think there sponsorship of the a-league, and their impact on the asian confederation, would have more impact, that what would a AFL sponsorship.

Renewal of Sponsorship by Hyundai has been signed off.
Don't know the finer details but it's all good.
