great post Danny
Agree about your sentiments about Fish - a good warrior in the dark ages -a good team mate in the trenches and a great representative on and off the field for the footbal club
In the dim dark ages when I went to training all the time I recall that fish was injured (knee injury) at the first training session after the draft ie he came with an injury - he seemed to be in the rehab group most of that summer but the kid had something about him -those telescopic arms that reached up high and plucked the marks - great effort from a guy at pick 70 who was a battler at the eastern rangers

I would have liked him to get to 100 and was far from the worst against the Carringbush that day - was the only one who took a contested mark that day too

Even further back I played basketball with his Dad Pete who was a good bloke too - Pete you should be proud of your boy -we are

We have given many a hack games they never deserved yet we couldn't find just one more for a bloke that got badly injured on many occasions wearing the Carlton jumper. Just about sums up the spirit around the club these days.

Good Luck Fish.

Agree with you about not getting that one game. I know some members of his family and recently was told that after the Collingwood game and Ratten made his statement about players being dropped a few players told Ratten to drop them and let Fish get his 100 th game. Wasnt to be, you may be on the money about summing up the spirit around the club. I know players dont select teams but would it really have hurt to get him that one last game.
Good luck Brad.

Our mums would be sued now for creating AFL stuff without a licence.
Remember those huge collars on the backs of the jumpers? Used another ball of wool.

I remember on my footy jumper (St Thomas Moore's) the collar came off - so in fact I may just have been ahead of my time with that collarless look!

Great work Danny

Fish is a great bloke and a shame he didn't get to the ton. I had Trevor Keogh on my back and then Alex Marcou......I liked the little blokes, and we had plenty of them !

Would have given him one last game.
Have always liked Brad, but felt that he had lost some self belief after he got cleaned up by Fev both physically and verbally a couple of years ago. He looked quite shocked afterwards.

Going by the posters on here, he was well liked by the supporters and will kick on after footy.

A real shame that he didnt hit the 100 game mark as he was a real goer when we basically had next to no one up fwd at times other than Fev. It would have been great for him to get his name on the locker but alas it wanst to be. He will always be remembered for his strong marking and less for his kicking. Thanks for the memories Fish.

Exactly.................ruthless is fine, callous is not.No doubt there is confusion in the camp.Brett Ratten was a manificent warrior for the CFC who understands sacrifice.I just am so shocked by his actions re Fish.Im actually confused as to what Brett is trying to prove.

I thought that he deserved one more year. Lets hope that he doesn't have 4 sons who all go on to be superstars.

Look, you can't look like that 20 years into the future, especially with the way the AFL currently chops and changes rules.

Let's say in the late 60s early 70s, John Lloyd had played 49 games rather than 29 or whatever he played. He was a good player but not great and that was about it. Had we then had Internet Forums and season-end delistings, there may have been a clamouring for him to play one more game to get to 50, just in case he had a superstar son in 20 years.

Well, he plays one more game, gets to 50, actually plays a dud game which we lose, but then everyone say at least we can pick up his son if he has one.

Then 25 years later, the rule now says 100 games, not 50. We still miss out on Matthew Lloyd AND lost the game back in the day that would ensure us the father-son pick.

I know - convoluted! But you know, the AFL might just scrap the father-son rule next year. It wouldn't be the dumbest thing they've done!!!

You don't think he's just trying to put the best 22 on the park each week?

Every single game for Carlton should be earned and derserved, not given out of sympathy or to get someone over the line of a milestone.

I remember shaking my head at Essendon* for getting Rioi over the line, am glad that we don't discredit the jumper like they did

Yep,he was,but badly misjudged it didnt he.Last half of the season proved that.Actually all you apolagists can dress it up anyway you want but it still comes out as feeble excuses.

Fisher did more than enough to EARN the extra game during the season - kicked multiple goals in every ants game post knee. Meanwhile Setanta struggled in the ones to have any real impact post rd 8 or so.

We carried a tall forward that was having minimal impact in the ones whilst there was a tall in the ants that could have come into the team much earlier in the season and have had an impact. Not carrying setanta for the extra few weeks would have 'given' fisher that extra game (which had be earnt and deserved on the basis of form, potential impact on the team, and contribution to the club over the past few years
