Possibally the best post I've seen on TC ever.

It sums up how I'm feeling perfectly. I don't agree with cheating and the like because I want to know we created a dynasty legimtimately.

As for Ratten and Sticks, they should be gone. Ratten is one of the lowest paid coaches so paying out a year of his contract will cost us nothing. After his disgraceful effort leading the blues back into the wilderness after a year of hope he will never get a coaching job again.

I have heard from numerous sources in the club that Ratten has lost the players. Don't be surprised if we lose one of our number 1 draft picks to GWS because of Ratten.

Murphy comes out of contract next year and have been fearing the worst too. If Ratten has lost the players, which i tend to believe is true then why dont they sack him before things get out of hand? Or is it because the coach in mind isnt available until the end of next year?

Yep, I like the hookers and shifty Lebos strategy.

Works for me.

This is a well known stategy devised by Sun Tzu in his Art of War, and I quote:

"If you know both yourself and your enemy, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss if you have a shifty Lebo and comfort woman at your side"

Maybe we could get Mil Hanna back in some kind of bribery/corruption/pimp capacity too...

Troll? I used to post over on TBV going back four or five years ago.

Look mate, I am an older supporter that remembers clearly what a Carlton premiership team looks like. You younger generation guys get excited over making eighth and winning maybe one final. To you, that is success. Not to guys of my generation. We saw flag after flag after flag.

While your childhood Christmas was spent unwrapping a Ninja Turtle, my Christmases were spent marvelling at the new off season recruits we used to get as par for course.

I rock up to R1 1981 with my older brother playing against reigning premier Richmond, and what do I see? Two guys from WA by the name of Bosustow and Kenny Hunter. Try telling a teenager that you are not going to win the flag that year with golden recruits like that. Five Christmases later, our wonderful administration bring over Kernahan, Bradley and Motley from SA in one swoop. Not bad eh? Of course we knew more flags would follow.

If you are happy to be a laughing stock - then so be it, but if we do not take immediate action in getting rid of Rats, well, you can kiss ten to twelve players goodbye as their contracts expire. It is THAT bad.

Sticks will never sack his mate Rats. So Sticks has to do the honourable thing for the good of the Old Dark Navy Blue - just fall on his sword. I will not hold what has happened against him if he just goes and goes NOW! The damage is done, he was not up to it. No shame in that. But get out before Carlton supporters want his blood. It would be a sad way for the greatest captain in AFL/VFL history to be treated.

You either part of the problem or part of the solution.

Ask yourself - what can I do for Carlton?

You're stuck in the 80's man.... Ever heard of a salary cap and draft... As for recruiting champs, have you heard about a player we recruited a few years ago called Judd?

The AFL wanted equality and they got it, that's why the Saints have played in the last two grand finals. And people really do forget how bad those draft penalties killed us and the poor recruiting that came because of it... But go ahead and rant, it's entertaining.

And if you were a little bit older, you'd have a taste of both worlds. It took 21 years and a massive shake-up for us to win in '68.

Now comparatively I'm sure I am a spring chicken, but I've heard enough stories about those years to know you have no grip on reality. Failing that, I can discern this from your posts.

Hey Bax and Jimmae...I bet both of you rejoiced when we won the flag in 1995. Oh yes, you were dancing and singing.

Well guess what dreamers, WE CHEATED and we still kept that flag.

We cheated in 1987 as well, but investigations were not so scientific those days.

To make you feel a little bit better, here is an interesting fact:

1991 - Hawthorn cheated cap to win flag
1992 - West Coast had start up concessions to win the flag
1993 - Essenscum cheated the cap to win the flag
1994 - West Coast had start up concessions to win the flag
1995 - We cheated the cap to win the flag
1996 - North won legitimately supposedly
1997 - Adelaide had start up concessions to win the flag
1998 - Adelaide had start up concessions to win the flag
1999 - North won legitimately supposedly
2000 - Essenscum cheated cap to win the flag
2001 - Brisbane had merger concessions (extra million in cap) to win the flag
2002 - as above
2003 - as above
2004 - Port Adelaide had start up concessions to win the flag
2005 - Swans had one million dollars extra in teh cap to win the flag
2006 - West Coast were supplementing players income with brown paper bags from organized crimninal elements
2007 - Geelong won fair and square

Can you see a pattern there?

Is what we did in teh past any different to what many others did?

Should we deny who we are?

Damn the critics, this club was built on a bedrock of shady deals, kickbacks, hush money etc.

Good old Jack last year said that Carlton handed out hush money on a regular basis while he was president. Five grand was the standard amount, ten grand plus if they were really hell bent on going to the media.

You have to be creative to survive.

I bet you circle jerks absolutely jizzed your pants when we got Juddy.

Do you honestly in your heart of hearts believe that Sticks would have had the nouse to do that deal?

Fat chance.

Old Dickie Pratt had the know how and the connections to make it happen. We pay Judd about a million directly through the club and another mill through "third party deals". I suggest with your pissy pants attitude, you do not want to know exactly where all that money is coming from.

I hope your morals are concrete, because it would be a massive double standard if you advocate doing everything above board and then are happy with how we acquired and how we pay for Juddy.

Pratty did it the old fashioned way - he was the master of stealing and lying and getting away with it. That is not a quality that should be ridiculed, but it should be applauded for his creativity and balls to do something great for Carlton - because rest assured, until Pratt's decisive intervention, Juddy was headed for the scum.

Be a hypocrite if you want, but don't pretend to everyone here that you truly are prepared to do whatever it takes to land our next flag.

Yeah rah rah rah and all that.... yehaa, lets sack everyone, beat up a few people, bribe a few more and we'll win a flag! let's offer malthouse $2m (Blight, anyone?)

BUT, Collingwood was looking a much worse place to be than we are now only a couple of years ago. Buckley gone. Thomas looking like a dud. No leadership. No guns.

Geelong was underperforming and on the verge of sacking its coach at the end of 2006.

Sydney was the 'ugly duckling' of the AFL, virtually bringing the game into disrepute, mid 2005.

Hawthorn was such a basket case a few years ago that Wallace (amongst others) selected RICHMOND as the better place to go. Dermie was so fed up he 'drew a line in the sand', and then there were calls for Clarkson to be sacked (Dawson, anyone??) 18 months later, they were Premiers.

Some teams take time. Some teams "take years to become an overnight success". We are progressing on many fronts. We also have glaring deficiencies but we can overcome these quite quickly. Ratten has not set the world on fire but he is learning steadily. Players seem to be miffed but our players have a bit too much hubris for their own good - perhaps they are not taking well to being put in their place. This unwarranted arrogance has led to the harshest criticism of the team this year - inconsistent intensity. Playing like millionaires etc... If they don't want to be at the club, the should piss off.
I'd much rather build a team of players committed and prepared to die to be out there rather than players who believe that we owe them without having earned it.

Some of your criticisms may be valid but we are learning and we are progressing. I have complete confidence in Greg Swann, if not some of the others. We are in a position to be considered in how we deal with our development. We are not Richmond. We are not Essendon*. Ratten is not Matty Knights. And if he turns out to have failed, we will be in a much better position to recruit a gun coach at the end of next year (who says Chris Scott or the like would be any better than Ratten????) Similarly, with the President. If your preferred candidate of Middle-Eastern appearance wants to be there with all his heart and soul, that would be great. If not, I'd rather not have him at this stage.

Let's just exhale. Appreciate the gains we have made. (Russell, Garlett, Henderson, Waite back to his best, JUDD, ruck stocks) be thankful we got value for Fev when we could easily have waited another year and got nothing for him...
And let's see how the club performs during trade week, at the draft and through the first half of 2011 before we start frothing at the mouth.

Great post and all that; I love the passion and you may be right - but we also need cool heads.
Most pundits were tipping us to miss the 8 this season. I reckon most will be tipping us to be top 6 next season. (And I think we could finish top 4.)

I don't agree with a lot of what he said but we do accept mediocrity now.

Well, at the risk of being stoned to death.

We need a Carlton supporting Eddie Maguire.

Cimm, how about one slightly less bitter?

Catoggio, you're right, but the draft hasn't even been around for 25 years. Perhaps give it a chance? North pulled a fast one to secure Carey back in the day, so you can add them to the list.

I keep hearing that talk re: the Judd deal, but I'm yet to meet a person who hasn't iterated that to me without a bitter look on their face or trying to hold back laughter. It's completely pie-in-the-sky.
