I've said it a lot, and I think I've written about it here (I'll have to try to find it), but 1979 was definitely the most important, partly because it ushered in a new era for us, but MAINLY because it exorcised the demons of the 1970s that began in the 1973 GF and led to a SUPER champion team of champions not being able to win one flag, when it really should've won at least 3.
Not sure I agree Moshe. Probably 1968 was the most important in that it broke a long drought, and the grand final experience was carried through right to 1995. We had a ruthless and far sighted administration and board that saw the future and went forward to it, a young coach who was the most original and far sighted in the game and for each era of flags players carried through to the next era. So players from 1968 and 1970 played in 1972/9 and 81, players from 81/82 played in 87 and players from 87 played in 95. Now with such a long drought we have lost that continuity of experience and culture. I don't really see the mid 70s as being a really lost opportunity. I think we fell away with greats like Big John and Serge S retiring, Brent Crosswell leaving, 4 coaches in three years, Southby slipped a bit as did Rob Walls. It was really the injection of youth with Marcou, Bucks, Sheldon, Harmes, McConville, Peter Francis, Wayne Johnston, and Fitzy coming back from Oxford that reinvigorated us in 1979
