All good suggestions jim, but not sure there'd be a great demand for it and someone has to take the time to source stock and printers, organise production, take and fill orders adn then there are issues relating to taking payments.

As you mentioned to bondi, we're a team of volunteers, none of us really have the time to organise it all and weighed up against the chances its a flop and we're left holding a bunch of stock no one wants.

It'd be easier to just call for donations...which I stress we're not doing at this stage.

edit: bank balance was about $400 late last year, and it down to $200 now.

I haven't checked the balances myself, but its been mentioned in private it'll be later this year.

Ah k.

I'm not sure on the stock and printing myself, but aren't there companies that will ship on demand once the designs are received? Something for a quiet weekend arvo me thinks.

Another idea is looking at registering the domain name under a different site extension. For example, domain registration for a .com address can be up to around $50 a year (usually on a two year lease), while .org.au, for example, is $15 a year. TC qualifies as a not-for-profit organisation, right?

Can't access TC at work any more. Increase in IT security, has meant a number of similar sites have been blackbanned. So only get to access from home, when the missus isn't nagging.

Upside though, productivity at work has increased.

Personally I think the site is struggling. A large part of its contributors aren't reflective of the Carlton supporters whom I associate with, who have a genuine love and interest of the club and its history. There is a general lack of knowledge of football or how football clubs operate. I honestly believe quality discussion is diminishing and intelligent viewpoints are as rare as hens teeth. I'm not apportioning blame on anyone, just expressing how I think it's going.

With unfortunate ad placement such as the one below I can see why there's not much of a click through going

Quote:
Bomber Merchandise
1000's Of Great Gift Ideas Buy Online Now At The Bomber Shop
www.EssendonFC.com.au/BomberShop

Anyway I'll click all ads in future - except that one - we can't lose TC.

Lurker was right that we'll run out of funds before the end of the season at the current rate of advertising revenue...however that doesn't mean the site will be forced to shut down.

We're looking at other options, including some mentioned here, including further sponsorship/advertising and alternate hosting. Not sure merchandise is the way to go. Even the moderators would be reluctant to wear TC caps and shirts

Apart from the obvious way of increasing current revenue streams, any suggestions would be welcomed.

Whilst it's not the most preferred option (but maybe better than asking for straight up donations) why don't you introduce a paid component for TC members who voluntarily want to take it up. Like $20 to $50 a year, kind of like the bigfooty platinum and gold memberships?

The 'paid up' members could have additional perks like access to secret area where Cazzesman posts Wayne Hughes' top 50 list after each draft, or tommi posts his sexual conquests or bluegirl releases her new songs (I like your last one  ) exclusively

i was taking the piss - thats why i added the smorgo pic - sorry for the angst

though i was taking the piss - yeah as has been explained there is some slight truth to it

we wont close down as long as people want to come here i suppose

would just be nice if we could fund the site without calling for donations or other means

but we will survive and we will find a way

its no major drama

not end of the world shit anyways

and bondi - i have a few bills to pay - mortgage and shit - what were those bank account details again ??

How many ex TCers are regulars on the other sites CSC and BF? Plenty. So the posters and the inquisitive are still around, just not here.

I'm an ex TCer, who left a fair while ago and have obviously come back recently after talking to a current TCer, (told me to check something out, got hooked on a few of the threads)... I'm not sure if I will come back as a regular like I was... but I don't post on BF or CSC... I hang out on the Carlton facebook page a lot, because they seem to accept people with opinions more than any other Carlton forums (including this one)... and they value a chick with football knowledge ;-).

I have noticed how many people have gone that were here when I left... half of them were the reason I left, so that may just convince me to stick around.

I'm sure tommi would happily oblige with exclusive content. ;)

They have an algorithm built to detect dummy clicks.

Best tip I can give: if you are somewhat interested in what an ad talks about, click it, let it load, then close the tab/window. By slightly accentuating your own habits the site gets more cash and you beat the algorithm.

I like your suggestions for paid content

Serriously though, if we were to have a premium membership we would have to offer something and I'm not sure we currently have anything of the sort. grro could do a match preview each week, but is anyone seriously going to pay for it?

I don't know what BigFooty offer for their platinum and gold memberships.

IIRC, platinum & gold members get on a better server rotation so they don't cop board issues at peak times such as trade week or draft day, as well as being signed up for all the cash prize tipping/fantasy competitions. They also get weekly or monthly prize draws or some such.

Not really exclusive content, just prizes & competitions.

Thanks. Access to servers is one for the admin around here, but we could offer free entry to the tipping comp and additional entries for the drawn sponsorship prizes...although that diminishes the value of the player sponsorship.

its not a bad idea though - im not technical enough to know how the server piece works

but would people be interested enough in collating the tipping, dreamteam, supercoach, mvp voting shit into a premium membership type package that gave exclusive access to these things? and then we could link competitions and prizes to these things ( such as all the unpurchased TC merchandise lol )

im 50/50 on it as i dont like to restrict 'fun' things like that to only people with money

dunno

I think bigfooty also restricts avatar and signatures to people with premium memberships.

You could also have a sort of TC donation where TC gets a slice of all competitions (tipping, dream team etc) prize pools, e.g. a 20% cut of the tipping comp. I am not sure how much money is pooled in each competition to know whether it'll be of sufficient benefit.

You can offer individual comps at a price to cover the prizes.

Overall there's some good feedback and discussion going on here. Thank you.

Unless something radical happens TC won't be closing down any time soon, either. I give you my word.
