I am more worried about losing Sauce for next to nothing to GC next year as a 250K - 350k contract + first ruck position might be hard to refuse.

I just hope he is scoring well in our b & F this year.

Sauce would look funny walking up Surfers Paradise beach in a thong.

If I was Clayton I would be more into Sauce than Grigg

Ditto.

Although idealy i'd love them both to stay.

Is it worthwhile giving Hampson a shot up forward in the Bullants for a few weeks just to test the waters?

Not a bad idea. Just need to work on his Body on Body strength.

It's pretty bloody obvious that we're going to have to relinquish one of our 4 rucks. There's no way the 3rd or 4th in line is going to want to play for the next three seasons at Preston. The only question is who, and for how much.

Obviously it won't be the Special K, so that leaves Sauce, Hammer, 206. I suspect in the long run they all have a good shot at making it as a first or second ruck, so perhaps the decision is influenced by how much we'd get for either.

Probably all three would be worth about the same to another club at the moment to be honest.

Hampson must be retained! Too much 'up-side' and his versatility is a huge plus.

My question - Is Sauce being consistently played this year in order to boost his value? Warnock and Hampson are both now fit and playing at the Bullants. 206 is under contract and Hampson too has a year to run on his.

As much as I'd like all 4 at the club for depth in the event that form/injury cuts down one of the big men, I think that if we have to give up a player to either GC17 or to another club to facilitate a trade then the obvious would be one of our 4 ruckman.

Hampson is a Queenslander but by all reports has settled into Melbourne life very well and does not want to go home. Can't help but think that Sauce is getting more opportunities this year for that very reason. 206 was starting to look quite good when he was dropped and Hampson I would have ahead of Sauce so could it be that Sammy is the one that may have to make way if we go down that path?

OPTIONS
GC - Sauce for draft pick
Hawks - Sauce for ?? (maybe Dowler and a pick)
Port - Sauce for ?? (maybe Trengove)

Keep Hampson. He is worth 2 first round draft picks. Probably done all the hard work for a developing big man, just like Hendersen and Kennedy and is about to reward us

Spot on with the comparison to JK.
Hammer and Hendo are just the point where there output is going start escalating. It takes big guys a long time to develop, but they are both on the cusp
you can't include Kreuz in that group obviously but he is just a freak

I've avoided this thread because I wasn't prepared to answer the question and spoil it.
The author wants answers. OK.

It took Judd for us to release the highly valued, yet unproven (Carltonian at heart) JK.
There is no way that Geelong (or GC17) would offer us Ablett for Hammer, so no deal.

We have a very strong list albeit young.
We have to think post Judd, and the decade ahead, because this group is going to play together for another decade.
Don't release Hammer; develop him. He's a big part of the next decade..the post modern modern era for freaks and others from other codes.

I'd keep Hammer ahead of Jacobs and Warnock TBH, and I'm a HUGE fan of all of them. Refer to my posts prior and post drafting the 3 of them. I'm a big fan of ruckmen and mobile talls.

Hammer is a freak.
Think Nic Nat who has played the game all his life and double the upside. IMO

I wouldn't trade the freak.
Jezza was from a soccer background (and ACT) and there's no way I would have let him go when he was just 21 and unproven.
Yep I obviously value Hammer very very much. Moreso than Warnock and Jacobs...there I said it.

I know the question to thread....my response is no deal....if I was to consider a deal though...reluctantly:

2 first round drafts, with one of those to trade for a proven A grader plus a pick...well there you go.

I'm not trading Hammer in the hope that the 2 first rounders come off. He's still so young and some are writing him off already.

Shit Mark Maclure wasn't much before he was 24, neither was Hamill, etc etc...you can't just write off youth when they haven't had tine to mature and develop. Big men take even longer, so you can guess what Kreuzer will be like in 2-3 years. Bigger and better than Cox. Refer to old posts; many of us suspected that back then...even Cazz...jimmae discovered him for me, and I checked him out when I was in Melb.

I'll be happy for Warnck and 3rd round pick.
GC can also get Mclean for 2nd round pick too

Hammer is untouchable,

Take out injuries, loss of form, time spent in playing positions other than ruck.
IMO all four will have plenty of time in the ruck and it's Sauce's turn in the sun right now.

Hmmm.... I agree... Sort of.
Hence, the problem!

We are wanting to have the best of the second best .....
Are the ruckmen who arent getting a consistent game going to be satisfied playing for the bullants, or as second fiddle for their career?
Warnock left freo...
Jolly left Melbourne ...

Perhaps hammo can get a better deal!

I doubt he's worth 2 first round picks.

But thanks for answering the question...

To fit that role, we'd better hurry and teach him to kick people and in general, be a filthy sniper.

Warnock has all the physical attributes to be just what we need. The rest is up to him.

Hammer has the physical attributes to be 3 times what we need. Time is all he needs.

Regards Cazzesman

Addendum: After todays VFL game. Probably more likely 4 or 5 times what we need. BEAST!

Bingo, frankly - Kreuzer and Hammer in 2-3 years time is simply orgasmic.
