ohailpin has done his best
however i dont see us winning a flag with him up forward
our backline Jammo, White, Walker, Russel, AJ, Army doesnt need Waite
Waite looks dangerous up forward but itd be nice to have him on the wing pushn forward
hopefully Hendo and Levi turn into guns
Levi is gonna be a monster
still 19 or 20 and already 100kg and has a great contested mark
id love to see the Hammer as a forward target
fast, strong, tall and can bomb it

Come on guys, nothing really changes in Football. You still need 3 tall forwards and 3 tall backman and 2 ruckman. Once you get that sorted all the midfielders fill in the gaps.

For me that is Irish, Waite and Henderson up forward.

Irish to crash and bash, Waite and Hendo to use class, with options to go to backline if required.

Down back, Jamison, Bower and White.

Thornton is done, makes too many dumb decisions.

Rucks - Kruezer and Warnock.

Doesnt take enough contested marks and lacks strength in the one on ones. Good as a 3rd tall.

Yep. 3rd tall, and fairly versatile now.

What makes a KPP then?

I thought a key position player is generally the spine of your team. eg. FF, CHF, C, CHB and FB.

To say that waite wouldn't be your key forward in the forward line is a bit of BS. 3rd tall behind Setanta and Lachie? lol.

Backline is full with defenders, so no room for him there now. Bower, Jamo, Thornton fill all 3 tall spots.

Only spots left are Wing/CHF.

I think Lachie has improved, but when Waite comes in, he goes to Bullants. No spot with him if Waite plays forward line.

I see our best forward line as:

Yarran, Betts, Garlett
Houlihan, Setanta, Waite.

Waite plays back. Hendo plays forward. If things aren't working out, Waite plays forward, Hendo plays back or goes to the bench for a while. Waite is versatile. Play him where he is needed. If we need a tall winger, play him on the wing, play Hendo forward and play Carazzo back.
The best thing about Waite is that when the coach changes his position on the field, the opposition coach has about two minutes to regroup his team before Waite takes two marks and kicks two goals. Then he goes back to the backline where the coach has another two minutes to regroup his team before Waite runs the footy through the centre and has an inside 50 while his opponent is wondering where he has gone.
Somebody mentioned Kouta in an earlier thread. I was thinking Kouta or James Hird. Waite may not be as good as either but things happen where he is and that's OK by me.

Waite is a wingman, not a CHF, however he can play at CHF, or CHB because he is a gun footballer with enough size. He is most damaging to the opposition when he is on the wing. There are very few players in the league who can match him on the wing, however there are CHBs who can defend against him, or CHFs who can kick goals on him.

Henderson is a true CHF. He will be a premiership CHF. On his form over the last 2 weeks, he should be in the side, and we should be trying to get as many games into him as possible, at CHF.

The forwardline hasn't been functioning as well in the last 2 weeks as in the previous month, although if Eddie Betts didn't have the yips, the scoreboard would have looked much better. I think what has really been lacking from the forwardline in the last 2 weeks is Houlihan. He plays defensive forward against the oppositions' best attacking backman (a role which Carrots did well against WC, but Carrots doesn't hurt them on the scoreboard), he kicks goals, and sets team up with his brilliant disposal, and he also becomes the forwardline's 3rd marking option, taking pressure off Betts.

I think our best forward line is :
HF: Houlihan, Henderson, ...
F: Betts, Setanta, ...
with Murphy, Simpson, Garlett and Yarran rotating through the other flank and pocket, and Waite on the wing running forward.

Dont agree. 3 tall forwards is 1 too many as the pies found out the other night and the cats did against us. The ball just comes out far too easy. I love it when we come up against a team trying 3 talls forward. With our running backline we just expose them everytime.

2 out of Waite Carlos and henda forward.

Jamo Bower and Walker as our talls in the backine.

An assortment of midfield types fill the other positions on the field bar Rucks.

..i think that fwd structures aren't always just six.. ..i reckon waite, hendo and setanta can work as fwds, cos hendo and waite do tend to roam outside the F50 quite a bit, and are both comfortable out there too.. ..that also leaves space for the smalls and med fwds around setanta..

Podsiadly, Hawkins, Mooney.
Cloke, Dawes, Anthony.

I reckon they're all a similar type of tall. They're six guys doing the same thing.

Waite, O'hAilpin, Henderson.

From what i've seen, Henderson is the only one similar to the six names above. Waite and Setanta are much more mobile and athletic than the rest. Waite for his timing and leap, Setanta for his ability to keep his feet... Both of them for straight line speed.

Its all about variety. Hawkins has had to go into the ruck to get him out of the forward area and bring in some variety. Anthony probably won't be back for a while. Waite, Henderson and Setanta are all able to co-exist in the same space because they bring different tricks to complement each other. Once they learn each other's capabilities and can create space, they'll be unstoppable as a group.

I personally dont think it will work. The ball hits the deck and it will get swept away just like when the pies and cats tried it. Contested marks in the forward 50 are rare so i think building a forward structure around it is not the answer. Krueser as a third forward every now and again might throw the opposition but that is about the only time i would use 3 talls. Pretty sure Ratts sees it the same after trialing Waite Henda and Carlos at the start of the season. Two talls also allows us to play another running player that can come in handy as games wear on.

This is how i like to see it.

Backline
armfield Jamo Walker
Russ Bower Gibbs

Forwards
Houla Waite yaz
Betts Carlos Garlett

Except for the fact we also have elite small forwards to contest when the ball go to ground... Something Geelong / Collingwood don't have in as great abundance.

I still think we will score more with 2 talls and an extra elite small forward that can keep the ball in. Forward line pressure to me is more important than the possibility of one or two more contested marks. It sets the tone for us and is the first step in stopping the opposition doing what they want to do ie get the ball into the corridor.

Yes, Waite is the answer up forward. Hendo is developing well, a great long term prospect whose time will come.

Is Waitey the "ideal" CHF/2nd marking tall? The answer is probably no, but he is the best option the CFC currently has and he'll do me just fine.

Please, give the thought of Waitey going back a rest, we are blessed to have Bower, Jamo, Tex as our first choice "talls" back there, with Aussie, White and Hendo as ripper back-ups.
