I wouldn't have thought Fev would have ever been a part of the deal. You're talking about a premiership team that was falling apart because of off-field culture and was being asked by the AFL to explain how they were going to right the ship. Recruiting like Fev probably wasn't what they were thinking.

In order to get the deal across the line I'm sure we could have kept JK if we were willing to part with the Kreuzer pick, but in a draft where there were 2 standout players - and one of them was a ruckman - you can see where the appeal was. I've always felt we gave up JK to get Kreuzer rather than Judd. I think most people at the time would have conceded that pick 1 & 3 was fair compensation for the game's best player, so to keep that pick was going to take some negotiation.

Unless Woosha has stated somewhere that he really wanted Fev, speculating on offering Fev instead of Josh is ludicrous.

It's not speculation, it's a lament.

But logically, if we could offload a 28 year old extremely tarnished Fevola last year, the 26 year old only mildly disreputable version would have been a walk in the park. Particualy given what we had to sweeten it with.

Anyway, enough said.

Wasnt Judd looking forward to playing with Fev?

They would of taken Fev if we offered him.

For those saying West Coast were on the slide after 2007, hindsight is a beautiful thing. In pre-season predictions most thought they would make the 8, and I am sure internally they thought so to. They probably thought re-building to some degree would need to be done, but the fall wasn't going to be as spectacular and sudden as it was.

That's my memory of things as well. There's a fair chance Judd wouldn't have come to Carlton without Fev. Unfortunately for us.

Also like to give a bit of credit to Heath Scotland. His work in the first three rounds, when we were Juddless, was awesome. He really put up his hand as one of the guys who would find the hard ball and carry it forward at all costs. He carried that trend on nicely against Geelong too. His gut running this year has been awesome. Very underrated in our side.

I have really come around on Armfield. Last year I wanted him out of the team at all costs - he was a genuine liability with the ball in hand.

This year it's clear to see he's worked impressively hard to overcome those deficiencies. Seems to be a settled member of the team now, which is a major credit to him and the coaching staff.

I was also an Army non believer, shortly after the Essendon* game I thought he wouldnt make it. Shortly after R3 2008 I didn't think Bower would make it.

The response from our losses to Essendon* over the past couple of years has usually been positive, like it forces us to have a re-think to how we managed to lose to them, also certain players responded in very positive fashion. (Browne and Bannister don't fall into this category, that game round 13 last year did Bannister in and Browne has been barely sighted since).

This means one thing - Ratten is a genius and the greatest sporting coach on the planet.

Kreuzer is definitely >>>>>>>>> JK

Though JK will still be a fine player.

What an attacking defence we are have built with the speed and attacking instincts of Armfield Bower Walker Russell Gibbs (and Lucas!) When you add the genuine stoppers Jamo and Joseph - it looks the goods to me!

Just on Kennedy, I'm super impressed with how his whole game has improved - kicking ball-bursting long goals, taking massive pack marks and moving so well. Good on him, but always a pang of regret that we had to lose him.

Should be encouraging for Lachie Henderson. Hopefully in 2 years he can have 75% the impact on games as Josh is.

I too have enjoyed watching Armys' disposal improve. Most of all though, I like the way that he attacks the contest. Even if he makes a mistake, it is out of his head and he is making another effort.

Go Snowie!

An uncle in law of mine (collingwood supporter) had the privilege of being in the Carlton change rooms before the Coll v Carl game. He said to me that the 'little blonde kid' doesn't shut up before the game and gets the rest of the players really fired up. He went on to say that this kid went around to every player trying to lift morale.

He also mentioned, Judd hardly says a word but is very focused, paces around and every now and then mumbles something of encouragement! Jamison was also very vocal which surprised me. I thought that was pretty interesting.

By the way, how do you get to go in the rooms before the game? I would love to see the preparation etc

That insight from the rooms is interesting Swan. I was on the CFC website last night reading the Q&A that Jamo did after last week's game. Somebody had asked Jamo about Army and had commented on how Army is coming out of his shell after being a quiet achiever. Jamo responded by saying that this was the only time Army has ever been accused of being quiet and that the other players cant shut him up!!!

+1

Has great faith in his own ability and pace too.
I certainly didn't see him as a long term player in his first few years, but I certainly do now!

Judd is priceless, and we did win that trade, but those of us who argued to send a clown called Fev west instead of Kennedy still continue to weep quietly in the background.

The arguments that it had to be Kennedy because Fev had a contract, we would never kick a winning score without Fev, and he would never leave Melbourne anyway, look progressively stupider ever week.

I am glad the Weagles got one good player for Judd. But I wish we could have raised our eyes, looked up the field, and summoned our post-Brownlow courage a couple of years earlier.

agreed.

but having said that, if we did the trade then, we wouldnt have got Lucas and Henderson this year. I just quietly i think Lucas is going to be a star, and Henderson, has alot of potential, probably a little ahead of Kennedy at the same time in their careers, so we didnt really lose to much by waiting.

though, having Kennedy would be nice!!

i wouldnt be suprised by this at all, and it wouldnt be a surprise to many to see the captaincy move on from judd in the next season or two for this very reason.

judd is a gun, of that there is no doubt, but i dont think he has the "personality" to be a captain, which is not his fault, some people are born to lead, others set the example., great captains done both! If anything it shows how bad our senior stock was when he came to the club so that we was almost forced to be captain!

i think we are starting to develop, aslong as everything else, a really strong leadership group and within the next few years will see judd hand in the job (which i dont think he will mind doing to his credit)

haha, god it good to have Judd. It is simply a previledge to get to go an watch him play footy everyweek.
