Tbird has cameoed up forward from time to time, occasionally looked like he might have some promise but never set the world on fire. As a third tall might be worth a go, given lack of ready-made alternatives and it does give us flexibility to send him down back if needed. At this stage though might well have lost his status as a member of the best 22.

Was definitely injury related. Hip if memory serves.

The signs were there in 1999. Was moved to a wing and Kouta to CHB for the latter part of the season. I remember Sexton himself wasn't happy about that.

I still remember a game at Docklands early 2000 and Dermie saying we're probably seeing the end of Michael Sexton and sure enough the end came the next week.

True, it was injury related, but I guess for me it was just sad to see him playing so poorly after being such a champ of the club - it felt quite sudden. That game against the Dogs at Docklands was exactly the one i was thinking about. Though I was glad to see his last game was in the seniors and was his 200th game and a win, and that he didn't end up running around in the VFL.

Good point. He knew when his body was done and retired.

I saw him at PP one day on the ground after a game with his son having kick to kick. Was great to see a 200 gamer out enjoying the game.

One of my favourites was Secko

Was definitely injury related. Hip if memory serves.

Peter Dean was another story. He struggled in 1998 and spent some time in the reserves, including a game at Punt Road. I still remember some lady (Carlton supporter) having a go at him, calling him a disgrace and barely containing myself. He proved them all wrong and played a great game in the last game of the season against Port. A game we won easily.

Yep Dermie had hip problems himself so he could see the signs unfortunately

Just on T-Bird and I tend to agree that he is at times too safe. Although I think we are forgetting just how good he was last year in our other big win against the Cats.

Personally I just think he goes into his shell when under the pump due to the scars of being a defender for a number of years in a really bad side. The gamestyle that helped Fev kick the goals he did also made it damn tough for our backmen due to the lack of support. He just seems to have a bit of the here we go again about him sometimes. To me it is a mental barrier that he needs to overcome.

Maybe.

I think he's out of form. I think he has to get his body right and I think he has to attack the game differently when he returns. The coaching personnel have a responsibility to define how they want him to play and the changes he has to add to his game. They can get him up and running again in the seniors if they are good enough. TBird is a professional, and works on his game even when he was a kid, so I am confident he can come back, repackaged and bigger than ever.

In the preseason he was definetely up. In the drills 6 against 6, both he and Bower were a formidable combo, and both were attacking (moreso Bower).

What has happened since then is that his body isn't right and he obviously has lost that 'phycality' because that's what Ratts suggested.

I think there's plenty of upside with TBird, especially if we ant 3 talls down back.

You make a good point Bondi as with a number of players poor form can be traced back to a more serious niggle than usual, but just as with the team at times so much of it is upstairs IMO.

Glenn Manton, fellow '95 Premiership Player, confirms it was a hip injury in the Blueseum.
