I’m probably more anxious than excited at the moment.

Are we going to ‘slide’ as per the general consensus around the place?

Or are we going to continuing our improvement and win a final?

Obviously hope for the latter (and then some!!) but truth be told, I’m not sure how we will go. Especially with a tough first half draw.

Interesting the other day to hear Ross Lyon say that "You can never have too many midfielders".........
Tipping he isn't trading Riewoldt for one though.

I'm not sure how successful he'd be with 38 midfielder of his list.

I'm about ready to top myself after reading this thread.

If you are that passionate pen your negative thoughts and send them to the club, as most posters don't need to read your crap. Don't slag the club off in what is now a very public forum. We are going into a transitional season, and negativity is not what is required.

We will be fine. First six weeks may be a touch bumpy, as we gel, get a few key players on the park and have a number of difficult matches. After that it should be all good, going deeper into the finals than last year.

GO BLUES!

Dane perhaps read these posts calmly and maturely and you will understand where people are coming from. Nobody is bagging the club or anyone else rather just stating how they feel !

I'm in agreement wit Dane, most people seem way to quick to write us off without a single game being played! I guess I'm in the minority in thinkin wel be better post fev, but still have doubts on ratts coaching abililty, but I'll wait til at least half wU through the season to see where we are at, then maybe I can have a dig at em if not goin well! Oh, n I am excited, no matter wT I wanna see the mighty blues playin, fev or no fev!

The handling of the Fevola debacle was very unprofessional IMO. It became a media circus and was the start of a smear campaign that only grew even bigger thanks to childish acts from so called professional footballers.

Then Trade week comes along and whilst the club had to make a stand on Fev, Brisbane at this stage "owned" us with the deal they got. I know its early and perhaps we won't really know the value Henderson and Lucas will bring for a few years, but on face value we were short changed.

To ad insult to injury, the draft whilst being a supposedly weak one saw some reaching from our recruiter. Lucas aside the other players chosen at this stage seem projects at best. I hope I am proved wrong though...

Then the club comes out with the new slogan, something about cooking. I know they wanted to be bold and different, but geez, it added more fuel to an already overwhelming media fire.

Then after supposedly showing the strength to set up a "strong" culture, with the trading of Fev, a handful or so of players decide to slap the club and its path of change in the face with childish acts. Not that the media needed anymore reason to continue their slamming of the club, this provided bonus material to report on during a generally slow AFL news period. The Club also, shows minimal professionalism to act appropriately and with conviction, deciding that they could wait a few days before working out a punishment.

So given what has happened in the lead up to this season, I am struggling to get excited at this point. Maybe after I go and watch the boys play in the NAB cup at Blacktown my demeanor will improve, but for now I feel like the club is treading water a bit....

:garthp:^infinity.

If push came to shove, everyone would have been happy to take Bradshaw and Rischitelli in the last hour of trade week. Yet they gave us a ten year power KPP like Kennedy and their first pick in the draft for Fev and pick 27.

A KPP who lined up on Roughead and Franklin last year.

If pick 12 was a KPP, the rating of that trade would have been rated weighted heavily in our favour.

Lucas is just another midfielder.

Who were the players our recruiter reached for if Jessie Smith was there at pick 60?

We have two recruiters.

TC should have a WOW award for the wowser of the week.

Yes....the negativity in this thread is beyond belief; and we're still weeks away from the season.....you'd think we were still

being coached by Pagan....... .......and welcoming new recruits including......Callan Beasy....Blake Campbell......Cameron

Croad.....Daniel Harford.....Ricky Mott.....Stephen Kenna.....Jon McCormick.....Glen Bowyer.....David Clarke.....Adrian

DeLuca......Brett Johnson....etc....etc.....

Why do we look intently at our players at training to see if they're enthusiastic and busting a gut to make the final 22 for the

first game; if by contrast we're so downcast and pessimistically dreading the first bounce of the ball?

Let's just imagine the whole list reads this thread every night......would they be inspired......or depressed?

Let's be excited about the coming season and our young kids who deserve our backing 110% all of the time!

1. Since when is Henderson a KPP like Kennedy?? LOL!!

2. I already identified the fact the club had to cut FEV, and yet their lack of planning for suitable replacements (ie he should have been traded in seasons well prior to the idiocy of Brownlow night) meant they had no choice but to get minimal value for a player like Fev.

3. I am no recruiter, but given the state of the draft, and the forced cutting of Fev, we got one midfielder who is supposed to be class. There were no KPP taken, no planning for the future. Maybe there was no suitable KPP left, however the fact is the clubs lack of action in prior drafts to have a mentor to Fev, meant this draft was again not going to help in KPP stocks.

3. No we didn't have to be "happy to accept Bradshaw and Risky in a trade". Fact is the club has handled their management of Fevola poorly for a number of years, which in turn had a significant impact to hes value in a forced trade...

4. If you don't like me being upset and disappointed in what is clearly a Club treading in water at the moment then :garthp: to you too

Excited to see our new draftees play

Keen to see the new recruits swap to Navy Blue guernseys and put in 100%

Eager to see Warnock get on the field and live up to his potential

Relieved to have a more balanced forward line

Passionate about a united, disciplined team who back each other up and don't sook and jump into each others backs

Proud to see Waitey get back on the park and revive his fantastic career

Impressed by the preseason fitness levels and PBs being set

BUT also.,.,

Nervous about whether Lappin is up to the job of shaping out new forward line

Watching closely to see if Ratts can take the group forward and overcome a hard start to the season

Hoping that Kernahan and the board can steer us back out of debt and make the right decisions most of the time

Definitely more to be excited about!

Great post.
That's where we're at.

I am more excited about 2010 than I had been between 2002 and 2009.
Carlton just excite me. I love the jumper. I love the club. I love it when we do great things on and off the field.

On Lappin, I have a feeling that he will be able to steer the forwardline better in 2010 than 2009 with Fev gone. It's time for some of his creativity.

As a forward, he was a very smart cooky. I'm sure that with a more balanced, multi pronged attack, without a go to man (which was predictable), he will educate the young with his bag o tricks.

Can't wait for the first bounce of the ball to see the new Carlton. We'' be right.

As for the recruitment strategy. It has taken 5 years of recruiting with a couple of those with our hands tied behind our back. We have recruited and drafted dilgently to create depth with class, and it takes time to create a list like ours.

Be proud of the list we have and follow it.
The list will amaze you if you care to look at it for what it is: class and plenty of everything.
We have depth, and as the youngest team in the comp last year, we made the finals.
The list is better in 2010 than it was in 2009 imo.

Bring it on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm even more excited after reading this year's Champion Data Prospectus. It mentions how when we win a stoppage we were second in the competition for scoring. Now the response will be we don't have the big goalkicker there anymore, however when you consider what we've added to our midfield in McLean + another pre season under Hammer/Kreuzer/Warnock then you have to think we will get the ball in there so often we will still score quite well.
