Don't know that many will post on here 'yeah, pretty much skipped footy for 5 years'

I didn't go as much as I had the previous 10 years, but in that period got married, had two kids, and my wife went from 'oh, football's OK' to 'I hate hate hate that game and will make your life hell if you so much as MENTION carlton without a 3rd party present. '

Also got more band gigs which were typically Fri/Sat nights which didn't help.

Still got to all the big games, but did start to skip stuff like Freo, North, Port etc...

If we were playing in Melbourne I went along and stayed to the end even if we were being humped (which was unfortunately more often than not). Rather than focus on whether we won or lost I tried to focus on the positives such as watching the development of our younger players and whether we were having a red hot go. After you've sat through the tough times you really appreciate when things get better.

124 points.

I wasn't at that one but I went to the earlier encounter that year where we won by 9 points

Inspirational stuff Teddy, my experience was like yours.

I was spoilt as a child with Carlton's success

Dragged my son along every week through the dark years, even though I often didnt want to go. Just to cement that important message that in order to truly appreciate the ecstasy of victory, one must have suffered (with dignity) the agony of defeat. I think they now call that child abuse. Hopefully our next period of success will be even more joyous because of it.

How tough was it though. Going along to a game with the (faint) hope of victory and losing is one thing; going along to a game with no hope of victory and the fear of crushing defeat is quite another.
