So Ratts should have started changing things at Carlton while he was assistant coach at Melbourne??
I think you're quoting me out of context.
They've taken the first and biggest step by shipping off Fevola. That was a long and painful process and only happened 5 minutes ago but has changed the landscape significantly. They now need to work with the team to establish a new order.

Tell me george, how many years have sticks and ratts been senior figures at the club?
How many years have they been in a position as either a senior player or coach or board member to have an influence over the playing group decision making??
Slow thinkers.....

No wonder the boys club are spewing about 'wasting' $50k on an election ...they had that going towards paying someone else to fix a mess they have no clue about fixing!! ..laughable!

it's just a jump .. to the left.......

People mean well when defending Carltons perceived shortcomings, but others also mean well when questioning them.

It's simplistic to blame Ratten for being a senior player in the early 2000’s. You should consider his place in the overall scheme of things. Logically you’d also have to blame SOS, Bradley, McKay, Koutoufides, Camporeale, Hickmott and Hamill, not to mention Pagan and Brittain. The latter two apparently both wanted to trade Fevola but were not allowed to by Elliott. And it’s not a player’s role to demand that other players be traded away from the club. I’m sure the above senior players and Ratten provided good leadership but players like Fevola, Whitnall, Houlihan and Lappin did it their way.
I could go through the rest of your assertions but I don't have the time!

They all have to cop certain degrees of responsibility for the culture... the pig Elliott the most, IMO. There's only a few of them left ...and they're stuck in the time warp...

I'd say Elliott 99% - he was so controlling, micro-managing his secret player contracts and playing favourites with players to feed his ego. Where does that leave the coach? Anyone who dared to ask questions was forced off the Board. Losing Mike Fitzpatrick that way was a disaster for Carlton. Fitzpatrick was potentially an outstanding president. Of course that was another reason Elliott wanted Fitzpatrick off the Board. Kernahan would have gone the same way as Fitzpatrick if he asked too many questions. Fitzpatrick didn't owe anything to Elliott as he was a champion captain before Elliott became president. I think Eliott did have a small clique of mates on the Board who could share the 99% with him. They had a lofty view of their importance.
jonah, n. somebody who brings bad luck.
I'd say the time warp label fits better with Elliott and his clique.

George, you can attempt to deflect away from the current day resident time warpers all you like but the facts are we are currently paying people to come in and try to repair a rotten culture that the current leadership participated in and don't have a clue how to lead the club out of.

I'm still livid at all and sundry for putting the club in this position.

Regardless of how 'normal' this was, everybody should of known better. It reflects poorly on the club and everybody associated with it. Especially with our history and 'culture'.

Not to many the sponsorship situation

I certainly hope it gets addressed appropriately. The leadership at our club must never be in question ever again.

If we have a poor first half of the season on field in '10 (I must say this is looking a distinct possibility) , all I'll say is LOOK OUT... :fight:

Fevola's contribution to our culture was that if senior figures around the club asked you to pull your head in you tell them to shove it.
That's why it was disturbing to see him a week after going on the wagon as part of his discipline for pi$$ing on the window, openly drinking cans of VB near Swanny and other senior people at a VFL match to stick it up them. What really irritated was that one of our No 1 draft picks was with Fevola, learning how we do things at Carlton. Fevola’s mates at Carlton seem to want to continue that tradition. Houlehan’s not 18 he’s 27.
Prohibition would be about as successful as it was in Al Capone’s days. The thing is for players to be able to “hold their grog” and not do too many stupid things after a few drinks. Val Perovic was a legendary consumer of alcohol but I don’t remember any reports of him behaving badly.
When Parko arrived at Carlton a second time the culture was not that great under Elliott’s presidency and Parko started cleaning up the culture by retiring two or three legendary players. He probably made that a condition of accepting the job. I doubt that those players would hold it against him now.
It’s only five minutes in club life since we shipped Fevola to the Lions, players have been away from the club for most of that time. Sticks and Ratts have not had time to start changing things post-Fevola. They couldn't do much while Fevola was there.
Some bird in the Hun today complains about Sticks not getting out of his car when a reporter waylaid him but IMO that’s nothing. He obviously wants to see some action before the media are fed by the club again. Perhaps he could have got out of the car and said that, and should have his lines ready in case he’s waylaid. I wouldn’t think it’s practical to get the players together now as they could be anywhere, overseas or beyond communication.
I have no problem with Sticks having a drink with the players. Sticks is as loyal as you get. After having a drink with the players and presumably trying to teach them how to hold their grog and drink in a civilised way, his loyalty is gonna be tested. He is torn between loyalty to players and club. As the boss he should
leave early if he has a drink with the players and thereby keep some distance.

"A witch hunt is a search for witches or evidence of witchcraft, often involving moral panic, mass hysteria and lynching, but in historical instances also legally sanctioned and involving official witchcraft trials.
The classical period of witchhunts in Europe falls into the Early Modern period or about 1480 to 1700, spanning the upheavals of the Reformation and the Thirty Years' War, resulting in an estimated 40,000 to 100,000 executions.

The term "witch-hunt" is often used by analogy to refer to panic-induced searches for perceived wrong-doers other than witches. The best known example is probably the McCarthyist search for communists during the Cold War."

It seems a witch hunt is on. Salem 1693 anyone?
The dinosaurs in this story are certainly not Ratts and Sticks

Id always thought Pratt was able to get to Step 3 of a much longer term plan, but most unfortunately for all he was not able to see out his plans. To me step 1 was to recruit Swann and then step 2 to work with Swann to stabilise the business ie financially, morale. Further steps were to get the best people for the job as the business recovered and we were able to lock in good business profits / cashflows from a relatively low base - this meant more and more investment in our on field support (the priority) and then eventually the off-field elements.

From a distance one of the problems we have is incumbency ie some of the people still there may not have been long-termers in Mr.Pratt's eyes. It is difficult to make genuine reform on this basis.

And then some of our players have completely f-ed up. Luckily for us very few are best 22 players so a (another) stand can be made next week.

no the were exposing not witches but people not qualified for imporatant roles.

The club suffers.
The pain becomes greater.

You never once explained what qualifications Sticks and Ratts have to make them elite in theor particular post.

Have you???

They wouldnt get a gig at any other club.....

Thats whats wrong with this club
