That's true DUC.

For all my favourites of the club, and for all my fanaticism in the last 40 years, the one thing that baffles me is is when asked and expected to remeber the number every Carlton player wore (some here at TC can).

Sure I remember most legends, but one thing is for sure, I never forget the importance of the beautiful and bold CFC emblem (any version) and what it represents to me...to all of us Carltonians.

CFC sounds better than the multi billion dollar marketed KFC.
There's something in that: class (like all of us).

I'm wondering what number to get also. It's more a tradition for me than anything else to have a number on my back, well, its evolved into a tradition for me, if you know what I mean. It all started when I got the coveted Kernahan #4 as a kid, and it went from there. I think I might get #4 again.

Having a number just adds to the fun. I love going to the games and seeing kids wearing numbers on the back with the favourite players and even better when they are signed. I cant wait till the new top is released (does anybody know when this will be?) and get my new number put on the back. BTW Rebel CBD do an awsome job with the numbers and the only cost around 20 bux. They use the AFL logo numbers just like the real ones.

I have decided - i will be going for the number 45.

What a GUN,

would love to have a beer with A.J

I've got 4 on the back of mine.

I might go in for a new jumper this season as I haven't bought one since 2007. I don't particularly need a new one, but as an every couple of years sort of thing I'm happy to 'update' to support the club.

If I go down the number on the back route 4 will again be a frontrunner, but 13 could be a bolter.

Either way, I agree with the sentiments of some others who say it's not about who wears the jumper, or what's on the back. All that matters is the emblem on the front.

I don't understand the fixation with having numbers on the back...does it make you feel like you are the player? Is Ratten going to lose a player before a match and notice you have a number on your back and ask you to play? Just stick to having a blank jumper, think the club should initiate a number for the fans like many teams in England currently do

So you would tell all the parents to not put a number on their kids Guernsey back?

I can just see you at the games giving 5 year olds fines for wearing an unauthorized number.

This practice has been going on for decades and only adds to the fun.

I totally understand wearing the jumper purely for the CFC but lets not become old nerds and take out the fun.

I am 28 and have always had the #25 on the back signed by Fev does that make me less passionate than you?

If you dont want to wear a number then thats your choice but dont give me crap about Ratten looking into the seating for substitute players. That just way to negative for this Forum.

Maybe you just don’t understand at all...Maybe it does make us feel like the player...And your problem is?

We are not in England...We are in Australia and this is how we do things here!

If it means that a young kid put's Juddy's # 5 on his back because this young kid is inspired by a person such as Chris Judd as a player/leader/Gentleman and as a result it keeps this kid off the streets then to me it means a whole lot of importance to wear and idolize your heroes no matter what age you are!

And keep this negativity out of this forum..no need for it!!! :|

I remember cutting out the number seventeen from a white cloth so that my old lady could sow it on back in 1995. It would certainly be a wise decision should we win seventeen sometime soon.

Points for which player No. 17 was in 1995?

I'm not trying to be negative mate just had an opinion on the topic so I answered... there is no reason why you shouldn't get a number on your back its just not something I wouldn't personally do. And btw go with #13 the kids going to be special.

Wasn't Brent Crosswell.

I think it's just, for me anyway, about celebrating you're favorite player.

Nothing more, nothing less. It just says, in whatever way you mean, you like the way they play footy.

What SeanPB said.

To some little kids, it may just be the fact that a certain player did something special for them or paid attention to them etc etc

Kids like that sort of stuff and tend to idolise said player for doing through wearing their number on the back of their jumper.

Here's one for ya. How many adults or more 'senior' supporters still actually wear a Carlton guernsey to games? Is there a set age where you should stop wearing one and dress in a polo shirt or something else??
