We've been going to the Cricketers arms after games at the G. Outside bar with drinks and a big screen for the footy. But opposition supporters go there too. But we've found it to have a good vibe. After dome games we just go to the sticks room.

Holliova (spelling?) Just across from Richmond station is a great little bar that everyone at the G walks past to go to the depot, or what ever it is called now. LCD screens up - and schooners not pots

We need 2 pubs, one for the dome, another for the G.

Here are a few options for games at the dome:

The Charles Dickens Tavern
http://www.charlesdickenstavern.com.au/
290 Collins St, Melbourne

A basement pub on Collins St, 10 mins walk to the dome. I spoke to the owner and he liked the idea. Said he'd provide free snacks if there's a lot of us. The pub is a 'Manchester united pub' (has a bit of memorabilia behind the bar) so it has a lot of English football fans in to watch games. Victory fans drink there as well. Calls itself "a touch of Olde England in the heart of the city".

Turf Bar:
http://www.turfbar.com.au
131 Queen Street, Melbourne

Calls itself "Melbourne's Premier Sports Bar". Has two Big Screens, plasmas and monitors, pool tables. Has a good English pub atmosphere and is close to Telstra dome. Their specialty meal is the parma (has about 8 types).

DRAWBACK: It has some Fitzroy/Brisbane memorabilia on the walls, so I think it's used by Melbourne -based Lions supporters to watch games.

The Sherlock Holmes
http://thesherlockholmes.com.au/
415 Collins St, Melbourne

Another basement pub on Collins St. Probably a little 'cosier' than The Charles Dickens but not sure if that's a good thing if there's a lot of us. Has a big screen and promotes English Football nights so would welcome a sporting crowd.

Those are the best 3 pubs i've come up with. There are other options, but they have drawbacks: eg. the Mitre Tavern isn't really a sporting pub (can someone confirm this?); The Irish times doesn't have a screen; pubs on King Street are, well, on King street. What does everyone think?

love this post and idea!! great work

i actually posted a thread a few days ago that is similar to this, trying to develop a small supporters group to meet before and after games for a few beers and carlton talk!

my vote goes with the turf bar, have had many a beer in there, great smallish atmosphere and close enough to both grounds! love this idea of catching up regularly with carlton tragics like myself!

will definately keep a keen eye on this post.

The Dickens is close to where I work so would be convenient for a Friday night game...

Was just looking at the website of the "Blue and White Brigade", a supporter group of Melbourne Victory.
http://www.bluewhitebrigade.com/

Those guys meet up at the Charles Dickens for a beer before the game, then walk on mass to the ground.

If it works for them, maybe the Dickens is the best option?

I love the idea of going to a Carlton pub close to the G and the Dome after another win.

I'm still pumped after the game, and nightclubs are for later on in the night.

I get to prolong the glory with likeminded Carltonians.....we are all happy after a win.

We are going to win a lot more home games than we lose in 2010>.

Exactly. After a win there should be a place to go that's full of carlton fans so we can celebrate the victory by having a beer and belting out 'we are the nay blues' a few times. At the moment, with no rendezvou point, everyone just dissipates into the night.

I reckon the idea will really take off. Once it becomes known that pub 'X' is where Carlton fans go, there'll be no ongoing organisation, it will be a ritual. All we need to do is decide on a pub for the dome (maybe another for the G), and then spread the word.

as an avid victory supporter also... two pubs that we usually attend before games are "the great western" and "colonial hotel" both on king street and are in walking distance to etihad... i think about 2 to 3 thousand fans gathered around those two pubs on saturday night before the a-league final,, and marched to the dome together chanting and singing...

Go Blues!!!

Yeah, those are two good options because of their proximity to the ground. I haven't been in either so I can't comment on them as pubs.

I think they'd be good for pre-drinks, however at night, after the game, King Street is pretty dodgy and that might put a lot of people off.
Also, do these pubs already get a lot of footy fans on game days?

My idea is to make a pub 'ours'... that why I reckon the turf bar would be best.... because there would only be Carlton supporters there. And it's only an extra 5 mins walk.
