Wouldn't be surprised if the reason Massie got traded is because he was a complete and utter flower...

I think Darren Hulme would come in handy about now that Hads is out.

It seems nothing brings out certain TC regulars like a big loss!

I'm looking at you 99prelim!

Always thought Blake Campbell would kick on. Wonder where's he's playing these days?

And Hickmont is as Carlton as any true champion that pulled on the Navy Blue.

And Jimmy Plunkett still has a spectacular name. Maybe him and Blake Campbell are hanging out...

Surprised no one mentioned our club legend Ackland.

Agreed. That was an oversight by me...

...I was always rambling on about how Bananaby French was the best tap ruckman in the league.

Shame he packed it in about 3 years before his time.

Agree with moshe as well about Davies. Liked the kid, he had moxy.

And Karl Norman. Would be a lynchpin in our defence right now IMO if he hadn't been sucked
into taking the persian rugs with dropkick Angwin...

There was a lot of things badly handled during this period - in particular Davies.

He was capable of the freakish but sometimes stuffed up the simple things - loved him in 2004 where he beat Collingwood off his own boot twice (Round 7 and Round 22).

Hopefully this reminds everyone of the sheer stupidity of trading away early draft picks.

David Parkin did an interview about him a couple of years ago - can't remember if it was he or Britts who organised the trade - Parkin commented that Massie's attitude and appetite for league football were not up to scratch at Carlton. He had the talent, but they were disappointed with his application. The point of the article was that Parkin was rapt that he had found "it" at Adelaide.

This article was written during a period where Massie was playing his best football at Adelaide, and it was put down to hard work and application - two things that were allegedly absent at Carlton. Parkin was a big fan of his, but just couldn't get the best out of him at the Blues.

I was disappointed with the trade at the time and Massie is often bagged as a wasted top 10 pick, but he played 150 games of league football, despite numerous injury problems, which is a good effort. Arguably, he could have played more as I think (as did many Adelaide fans) that he was delisted prematurely. He was a good solid footballer.

FWIW, Parkin also hinted in the article that if Massie had stayed at Carlton, he would likely have been delisted earlier, due to his lack of commitment.

Reading that list has given me some very nasty flashbacks. I think I'll have to go and lie down now.

He would have played 500 at Carlton, looking at that list

Campbell is playing for Mooroopna. Davies was back at Shepp United but don't know if he's still there.

From what I know of Norman you're overstating the encouragement he would have needed.

I'm just grateful that the press these days is mostly positive.

Whenever you heard there was a footy story breaking, it was almost always about the Blues and more bad news.
