Youd wanna go pinch one or two blokes from the Crows IMO...

Few clubs understand the future of footy more than this club does..

Agree with Adelaide and take out the bad eggs at WC, they are a good team to follow from a football department perspective. They don't stay down for very long and get back up the ladder quickly.

WC probably have the best emerging forward line and one of the best emerging midfields in the league.

I disagree, any remotely inventive team that is prepared to work will smash the Crows.

We let them have the game because we gave up at each stoppage after 3 seconds.

Adelaide are great with what they have .,

You couldnt ask for more than what you get from Adelaide with the draft picks they have had and the age of the list

You cannot say the Adeliade club doesnt get the most out of their list....

I can agree with that, but that's what you're seeing out of these clubs now: very productive kids when coming in from the draft, and they look fantastic in these systems that segregate each role down to a very simple system of checks, patterns and reads.

Then they get to year 4, and they look like Dale Thomas because they move into a more senior role without a sense of the bigger picture; suddenly the kids are getting you to break the zone; you to execute the tighter forward 50 entries.

I see it best as a slightly odd metaphor: while we're nutting it out and turning babies into men, teams like Collingwood, Adelaide and now Essendon* are turning puppies into adult dogs.

The puppy learns to walk and run faster, but then their development compared to a child flat-lines.

Pay him a million $$ to fix our kick-ins.
Also get a monkey from werribee zoo and pay him a million bananas a season to be our forwards coach

Remember what happened the last time we got a former North coach?

It's like dancing with your sister all over again!

We could do worse than get a good match day coach to be a forward scout and come up with a range of tactics to use against other teams to add to the match committee. Ratts has had some good games in the coaching box but sometimes seems to be IMO slow in making moves and we seem to be beaten by the same teams using the same tactics. Perhaps that is a lack of man power but IMO we don't seem to have developed a range of tactics to be employed to stop the opposition's momentum or if Judd has to go off for a rest.

Of our coaching set up the tactics on ball defence and the forward line seem to be the most glaring deficiencies at present, I am not sure if Laidley would be a good forward line coach but IMO tactically and defensively his teams have always been very good and he is a professional coach so make him an offer he can't refuse.

We did well to win a game let alone 2 preseason premierships. Even when we're $hit we still win stuff :smoking:

Laidley took an average list with no resources to a prelim final, and other finals appearances. They played an attractive, effective brand of football. North consistently out-strategised opponents during his tenure, an area where Ratts needs some help, IMHO. We definitely need some serious help with kick-in strategy, and foward line structure and planning (I invite fellow members to watch how often Fevola and Setanta are in the same area, contesting the same ball).

We could do much worse than getting Laidley. Although we should be making a MASSIVE play to get SOS for next year (I know, I know, but time to build bridges...), and Hinkley, who may feel some experience at another club might help his senior coach chances.

C'mon HS, even Freddie the blind miner pissing in your pocket on a dry day can see this is different
Laidley = blue skies ahead

This reminds me of that one hit wonder Patrick Hernandez' song "Born to Be Alive"...

I recall a newsbreaker on here saying someone else at Norf was doing all the opposition analysis and Laidley was taking the credit.

Not quite. Daly had a lot of input into their tactics _ and will be snapped up by someone pretty quickly.

But Laidley knows his stuff as well.

Say what you want about Laidley's performance this season, the fact remains that he took a very ordinary team into the business end of the finals two years in a row. His input into how to get our young group to take the next step wouldn't be completely useless to us.

Looks like Laidley, might be heading over to Port Adelaide.

Hopefully they start working out what it takes to win finals footy because that is the only question mark they have over their heads. Every other box is ticked.
