I would love to see us with our own reserves again .

Finance is one of the main worries .

The AFL subsidises the cost of VFL teams , paying some of the coaching costs , The trainers , runners , medical supplies and general running expenses .

They don't do it for the AFL clubs with their own VFL teams . eg. Geelong and Collingwood .
This would mean all costs would have to be paid by CFC . Around $700,000 minimum /year .

I know Essendon* have been looking into it , and this is one of the stumbling blocks .

I have always despised the Red jumper CARLTON players have to wear on weekends.

FFS they are Carlton players.
Where's the heritage?
Where's the familiarity in the jumper for those promoted from the seconds to the firsts?
Where's the sacrifices for the jumper when it is red?

It is wrong.

I would hate to play in a red jumper after being selected by the greatest club in the world, then have to wait a few years before I could put my team jumper on in a game.

I do understand the financial position we have been in, but when we are financially (vibrant) independent again I look forward to the stand alone reserves team with a proud sponsor and the players playing in a Dark Navy Blue jumper.

On the flip side, I can imagine Stevens and Scotland trying their guts out to get the Dark Navy Blue jumper on again. Perhaps the colour of the jumper matches the colour of their face.

Apart from the crappy red jumper, the Ants are the Carlton reserves right now - except in the couple of 12/10 games.

The team is selected and the players are positioned for the benefit of the Carlton players' development - it is certainly not selected on performance otherwise there would be more Carlton listed players in the ressies. As far as coaching for team success is concerned, Teague is coaching with his hands tied behind his back just like Mitchell was.

Most home games are at Visy-Park and the team trains there as well.

The only real difference is that there is a ready made group of top-up players from Preston rather than having to draw them from various other teams in the area.

I'm not sure how much this is all the case RR, as in what games I have seen our reserves team aren't emulating the seniors' game style, or experimenting a whole lot.

If the Ants aren't emulating the seniors game style , that could be a plus !!!!

RR has spoken.
Therein ends the discussion.
If anybody thinks he knows more about the Ants than RR, please put your hand up.

Nice scoop on the SEN VFL hour. Discussion in progress possibly to rename the Northern Bullants to Northern Blues. The jumper would also change and all games played at Visy Park.

psuedo-standalone team so AFL can continue to pick up the costs :smoking:
