Well there you go...that's why I don't listen

I have doubts on Armfield due to his disposal but for him to judge Austin and Robbo at this stage of their careers is incredible.

How does he get a gig in the media? Robbo's played less than 10 games, same with Austin.

He has no idea on their junior careers and what type of player they are.

..Effes, that's a strange post.. ..how many more games do you think Army has played compared to those two you mentioned..?.. ..Army would be lucky to have played half a season of seniors (not consecutively either)..

You are right when it comes to games played but Armfield has a 2 or so years on the others IIRC. He has shown no improvement in terms of disposal/decision making. The others have shown they can hit targets and make the right decisions.

Armfield tags his player, wins the contested ball, takes the game on, breaks the line and there's nowhere to go. How much of that is Armfield and how much of that is Ratts' game plan/ structure.

Give the kid a break...he's admired for taking the game on as the alternative (Ratts handball possession sideways backwards fingers crossed way) kept on seeing the ball come back over his head.

Have a look at the real culprit in the scheme of things.

Armfield does have to tidy up his disposal, but he is one of a few who is naturally proactive.

Ratts has to get more players to move it and pressure the opposition into errors.

Couldn't agree any more, just like Bower gets the ball and his initial reaction is take the game on a create unfortunately we lack structure and therefore when it doesn't come off the player is made to look average.

Regardless of who they signalled out the whole lot deserved a whack after yesterday from the coaching staff down to the boot studder . Good on 3AW for taking the time to have a swipe

Their preperation for interstate games is all wrong and need to be looked at

Remember when people (many on TC too) thought that Bower was not up to it. People expect far too much too early from the young players.

He still might not be up to it, although he probably will.
One swallow doesn't make a summer, and Bower's got a long way to go to be a top AFL footballer.
About a month ago some monkey wrote an article saying that Wiggo was our answer to Riewoldt and lots of people bought it.

Really good post BB.

As for bagging Bower and still questioning him Budsy ... fair dinkum, take a long hard look at his last few weeks ... time to admit that he's a talented defender ... after all, we're called Carlton supporters right?

Armfeild is 22 and his disposal is poorer than the other two players. It is okay to make assumptions, in fact I'd be disappointed if peopled didn't but the key is how you manage them.

I think some people are jumping the gun a bit on our young blokes (Tony Shaw definitely is). I must confess after Round 3 against Essendon* last year I was convinced Bower was not up to it, and Russell wasn't either (I am still convinced on the latter). Thing is these blokes have played so few games, Army tries, I don't know how much upside he has got, but as for Austin and Robbo, sure Robbo made a dud decision or 2 yesterday, but I think his positive attributes definitely give us something to work on with him.

Our first half yesterday was so woefully bad you could jump to basically any negative conclusion about any number of the 22 part of it.

As was stated earlier in this post, Wiggins has to be over now, and anyone thinking Houlihan wouldn't offer us more is delusional.

In a way what appears to be happening now could be of long term benefit to our chances of winning number 17, as it will speed up the turnover of the list cloggers/duds quicker than it would of otherwise happened.

It suddenly dawned on me about Armfeild. Aside from his qualities as a footballer was the fact that he was a more mature draftee a factor into why we drafted him where we did?

If so, I must say, on the evidence on how we're going now, I don't agree with the logic.

I'll also add, just so you don't think I'm being fickle, that I wouldn't have agreed with the logic then either.

They're caning Army, Aussie, etc, but part of the decision making problems we're having at the moment is that none of the kids know what is expected of them any more.

They look good in the 2's and get promoted to the Twilight Zone...

They are told to keep possession and build, yet at the same time told to run and take the game on.
Seeing as no one knows what their structure is supposed to be (and therefore where to look for their team mate), what do they do? Stop and try to find someone, or run on?
Caught in 2 minds, it's not surprising that people stutter, get called to play on and then dish off a hospital pass or get pounced on.

They get blasted for blazing away to nothing, but our FF is getting kicks on the wing 90m from goal. Mixing it up, as prescribed. That's one way to teach the boys not to kick it to your FF. Maybe Pagan was onto something the day he put Fev on Gehrig... :screwy:

We don't know whether to zone, or go man on man. So we do neither. No wonder we can't break a zone: you need a plan, well drilled and executed to beat a team playing together.

We don't protect our star play maker, who gets monstered by 2 or 3 opponents all day. :yikes:

No wonder the skills look so bad. They have no idea where to run or who to give it off to. Where are they going to kick it?

These kids have been coached out of it. Pure and simple.

*Shakes his head at Tony Shaw*

That's exactly what he said on the coverage too. Not a clue with that bloke, get him out of football like they did Dougie Hawkins.

- Nick Stevens was on and said the neck is fine its just general soreness. He receives treatment on the neck everyday. Its easy to aggravate. Said all the boys have to lift. Said he feels sorry for Fev cause he cops all the blame when they lose when everyone should be blamed.
Fev shouldn't be blamed for a loss, just for his attitude. If his attitude leads to a loss, he should be blamed

- Everyone absolutely bemused with our structure especially kicking into the wind in the first quarter
Agree
- Tony Shaw said 'the way Fev was used in the first quarter was as ridiculous as i've seen in a coaching role'
Agree
- Robert Walls said if he was coaching against Carlton he would love seeing Fev outside of the 50
Agree
- Questioning Bryce Gibbs and Murphys defensive pressure
They shouldn't have to be defensive - if we were playing our attacking brand, their oponents would have to watch them
- A caller rang through asking if they think there is to much ex Carlton influence in the coaching box. They don't think thats an issue with Montogomery, Harvey and RIley
Shouldn't be an issue IF we've got the best available - if not, get 'em.
- Tony Shaw has doubts about Armfield, Robbo and Austins ability
Armfield is dodgy - Robbo and Austin will be good.
- Saying Yarran is about two years away from getting his fitness to AFL level. They agree Ziebel and Rich miles ahead of him
Too early to tell. Without knowing Yarran himself and his attitude you can't tell where he'll get to.
- Judd gets no protection from any of his team mates which is a waste
Agree!!!
- They think Houlihan is in our best 22 only cause of his skills
Agree
- For Carlton to be a top 5 side Simon Wiggins wont be part of it
Could be good in a good side. Is crap when we're playing crap footy.
- Shaw thinks Robbo lacks leg speed and is a worry
I don't.
- The best point made by Walls that to many players in previous years got games because we are bottom 4 side and now that we're on the way up some of them are being found out and turned over.
Most of those are now playing in the Ants - Apart from Wiggins and Russell - I don't know who he could be referring to.

- They like the look of Hampson and Kruezer
Agree

Unfortunately our club still has many enemies, still alot of wounds outhere still needing healing, St.kilda, Doggies, Melb have all been on some severe bashings at the hands of Carlton, alot of those clubs were percentage to Carlton, Iron Mike a Dees fan, Carro the BlackWidow the Tiger, Gerrard like Switzerland on the fence, i wouldnt care what Ox thinks as he is clueless and wouldnt know success if it fell outta the sky ontop of him......... deep breath, reflect and wait for the success that will come

I'll admit nothing except that he has some talent.
Kicks and handballs that float high aren't the sign of a top footballer, when and if he irons that out of his game he'll be a very good player, until then it's a major weakness.
On match day I support each and every Carlton player and hope they succeed, but supporting the club doesn't mean having blind faith in every player who pulls on the jumper.

Hmmm ....

1. Army has been playing well with the exception of last week ... where no one had a good game. For me .. definitely in the top 22. If fact I remember a game or so back that Tony S made the comment that army had really impressed him

2. Mike Sheahan makes it up as he goes along. He said last night that the problem with Carlton was the difference between their best and worst .. pointing out their inconsistency. NB ... Mike. all the games except the one with Adelaide have been marginal (close) losses or wins. I would have thought that was consistent ... look at your own consistency Mike ... stupid comment.
