We badly need a forward coach

Then we will see it all coming together

Not saying we shouldn't get a premiership assistant coach but why don't we make our own premiership coaching group

So recent premeirship success seems to be a key criteria to selection of assistants. A few people on here are keen on Allan Richardson but I see nothing to suggest that he is remotely linked to a premiership.

Yeh, he got a fair bit of credit for his work at Collingwood.
I had a good look at their kids on Sunday and I am not impressed with their development. Perhaps it is because he has left, perhaps he can only take players to a certain level, perhaps he is no good at all?

Todd Viney went to Adelaide and he was part of Hawthorn's rolling zone premiership success.
Perhaps he might get them a win against Hawthorn?

Yeah, look... You can go two ways with this...

The current Hawks coaching line-up includes John Barker, who never played in a GF as a player, Damien Hardwick who has two flags on-field as well as one off, Rick Macgowan who played for Clarkson at Centrals and coached Sturt and Ross Smith who played over 200 games for the Roos when they weren't much good.

Geelong have blokes like Ken Hinkley and Brendan McCartney - neither did much as players and both were with the club when The Cats were shit... McCartney has been an assistant coach for 10 years - including a season at Richmond. Balancing that our they have Sanderson and N. Lappin - both very good players.

Brisbane have Leppitsch (great player, multiple premierships), Adrian Fletcher (good player, lots of clubs) and Wayne Brittain (GF and Wooden Sppon coach of CFC) as assistants...

The Saints have got Ross Lyon as Senior coach (who was an assistant here when we were shit), Silvagni (champion), Leigh Tudor (average player, good junior coach) and Tony Elshaugh (Pagan's right-hand man when we were shit).

We have Montgomery (good player, multiple clubs, flag), Riley (professional assistant), M. Lappin (good player), Bradley (champion), Harvey (champion), Harris (professional assistant) and Teague (battler).

So, what does this tell us?

That there's no magic formula. Each set-up includes different blokes doing different things in the context of that clubs structure. Each club has some former players, each club has some hardy professionals and some journeymen assistants. To say that we should pinch... (who? Barker? Hinkley? Elshaugh?) someone from one of these set-ups is reductive.

Watched the game again last night and Collingwood haven't got much to look forward to IMO.
