He is an absolute flowering disgrace.

Rohan Connolly was laughing about that - my take was that he thinks the guy is biased too!

Connolly's an Essendon* man, IIRC.

One of the better footy writers though.

Pros -

Gibbs convinced me tonight - possibly our best player already
Murphy - kicking straight this year
Houlihan - superb early
Jacobs and Kruezer - We can hold our own in ruck now - YEAH!
We won
Batman and Robin up forward
Waite and Thornton saved us the game

Cons

Jamo is a big loss - Austin or Setanta come on down
Bower - gone backwards quickly
Garlett - like him (in my DT too) but not AFL yet. confidence looks to have been hit after great pre-season
Got our own medicine after half time - no midfield / forward pressure will kill us, especially at the Dome
Don't usually bitch about umpires, but together with some silly rules (50 after disposing and anti-bump laws for example) annoyed me tonight with poor decisions

Tend to agree - against the very strong players like Bradshaw and Brown was always going to struggle. He'll be better for it and will be ok.

Walking into the game the big screen at the dome was playing that ad with Waite and Walker - just to rub in the day's bad news.

A great win where some of the boys dug deep and an elite midfield emerged.

PROS

1. The Holy Trinity - each time you think one is the best, another replies. Tonight was their best combined game

2. Hadlee - does so much under the packs. Is fundamental to our midfield.

3. Judd - His 2nd quarter was scary - he faded late in the game due to sickness and so did we as a result. How did we get JUDD!

4. Waite - was brilliant until he had to go back to cover

5. Jacobs and Joseph were very good.

Oh and Mitch Robinson - when the chips were down and all the boys were runnin on the spot - He got 3 hard balls - amazing!

CONS

1. Jamo - Hurts our structure so much to lose him. The bowser was on a hiding to nothing after that

2. Walker - tragic. It'll be good business for orthopods on Monday unfortunately

3. I really think at least one of Grigg or walker should have played. The rookies were buggered at the end. I can;t see how they decided on Garlett over Grigg. Still think it was the wrong call

4. Still lack a true CHF to run the play through. Cloke and Wiggo are so honest but not enough.

5. I have to say it - JR. Some bad turnovers again, 1 at a crucial stage. I know he did some good things too but given that grigg and stevo will come next week, I'd drop him. That said, I know he won't be dropped, the MC love him.

Overall - a very gutsy win. We didn;t beat Essendon* last year - MUST win next week

Oops - forgot to mention Thornton in my PROS. Great game by the much maligned Thorno

Bit Harsh. He is rarely beaten and tonight he was giving away weight and strength and 175 games experience. FB is not his game at this time. He's a 3rd tall option upfield. Bradshaw got some good delivery and got his big body in front.

Last week Bower creamed Schultz. Everyone is entitled to an off game now and again. He has played 26 solid games so I think you should cut him some slack.

Regards Cazzesman.

Yeah hesitated to write that but he made such massive strides last year (did good jobs on great players last year) and has been off the pace since pre-season. Reminds me of Setanta's decline over the previous pre-season. I've seen enough to know he's good enough, but he's sorely out of form.

Just on 3AW, the usual 'we won't know the damage until a scan' line. BUT, they did say that they considered putting him back on but decided to ice it to be safe. If this is the case, perhaps it's not as serious as we think.

1 average handball that cost a goal and another turnover after he got the hot potato from Judd in the middle that was recovered by the team. For flowering sake stop beating up on the kid. He was rock solid and attack the ball as hard as any in the team. Every other player in the side would have made atleast 1 mistake so give them a spray as well. Gibbs kicked 1 out on the full that ultimately cost a goal. Shite happens.

I'm over the JR bagging. It's not deserved so far in 09 so why is he still the whipping boy?

Agree with that CM - very solid performance. Johnstone was very quiet tonight, and I believe Russell had him in the first half. I see glimpses of real quality trying to emerge, a bit frustrating that its 2 steps forward one step back at times, but the trend is upward.

I thought JR played a pretty solid game to be honest. Not perfect by any means, but Gibbs was probably the only guy on the field close to laying that claim.
