The question in the NAB cup is always "which clubs will take it seriously"

Weagles V Pies was a classic example. Pies took across a strong team (by there standards) and the Weagles left out about ten that will be in there side for round 1.

I personally dont think we'll be going to hard in the NAB cup. We've won it twice recently and that didn't help in the long run. The cash was handy at the time of course.

The Kangaroos will be going at this game big time I think. As most people think they will slide this year they will be keen for a good showing to boost membership.

Judd and possibly Fev to play half a game as subs. Stevens to play full game.

Cloke to practice at CHF, Yarran in navy blue (cant wait), Robinson to make headlines as future star (TCers already know).

Result not that important, a close match would be good for both sides.

Play to win...everytime we cross the line.

That's the way of the bluebagger.

The more intense hitouts on AFL standard grounds before round 1 the better.

I'd like to think (hope) we would win at least the first 2 rounds. That would give us 3 good hit outs (albeit different rules), then come back to Visy Park and iron out any problems we see and build on our strengths.

Like all teams, we will play to our strengths...we need to know where we're at closer to round 1.

From what I'm reading in Training Reports it eems Armfield is ahead of Browne at this stage.

With the injury to Warnock and suspension to Setanta, I'd like to see Jacobs elevated and drilled at the highest level in readiness for the first half of the season.

mjonc has Bentley in his team as a sub. That's fantastic to see a kid on the radar in his first year. From training reports it seems that Ellard is ahead of Joseph; maybe my interpretation is wrong.

Robinson is a must. I hope Yrran steps up in the next fortnight.

Even though it doesn't count for anything, it'd be nice to see us beat North Melbourne for the first time in a while. I reckon 2 wins would be ideal, followed by a loss, so the focus goes off us in the lead up to the season proper, and we can prepare properly for Richmond (rather than being caught on the hop, as we appear to have been the last few seasons).

The Age has Yarran and Robbo playing in first NAB Cup game, I'm assuming Ratts has told the reporter this.

Match day looming, need to crank up some discussion.

B- Browne, Jamo, T-Bird
HB- Grigg, Waite, Bower
C- Simmo, Gibbs, Robinson
HF- Houla, Cloke, Wiggins
F- Betts, Fev, Fisher

Foll - Kreuzer, Judd, Murphy

Inter from - Stevens, Hadley, Yarran, Armfield, Russell, Hammer, Austin, Ando, Joseph, Johnson

Injuries/rested - Carrots, Tex, Scotland, Warnock. Probably missed a few.

Fish out when Tex back, Carrots for Browne, Warnock for Hammer, Scotland will slot in somewhere.

I read another thread on this site and someone said this game was on the 21st but I am sure it is on the 20th. Checked the Carlton website and couldn't find any details (low priority I think) so then checked the AFL website and yes it is the 20th.

Anyway if we keep to this game plan then we should win. If Carlton handball and kick it to other Carlton players and keep it off the North Melbourne players then we have a chance. We will also need to kick a higher score than North to seal it. Hope Ratten is reading.

I'm liking the tactics DIAMOTISM, but I dunno, it could be a bit too risky methinks!

You're a thinker, DIAMOTISM.

It's a revolutionary plan, but it just might work!

Browne T-Bird Bower

Grigg Waite Johnson

Simmo Gibbs Russell

Houla Cloke Fisher

Betts Fev Robinson

Kruz Murph Stevo

Int:- Judd, Hadley, Yarren, Anderson, Hampo, Banno. Sup:- Hartlett, Edwards.

Can't see Fev and Juddy being used for a full game, they will most likely be the Sup players. Thus giving time for Edwards or Harlett to show something. Both need every chance to show something.

Don't think Jamo will play so Waite and T-Bird will hold the key spots, will be good to see heaps of Johnson, pretty excited about seeing Grigg do his thing this year.

Kruz and Cloke to share CHF and chopping and changing with Hampo in the ruck.

Hopefully get to see Hadley on the ground for abit of run. Wouldn't mind seeing Russell and Grigg given a run in the guts also.

These are just some things I would like to see happen, god knows what the team is going to look like. Could have so many players on the Int:- Wiggo, Armfield, Aussie, Browne and so on.

The Senior players can't go into Round 1 without some good practice Matches..... Given that we are playing at a Quality ground and possibly the only time if we lose, its important that Judd, Stevens and Fev get a good Hit out...

I agree. I'm sure Judd has set his mind on playing in the NAB on Friday.

Jamison didn't play in the intra and he isn't listed as injured, I can't see him missing in the first NAB hit out for the same reason.

There a few others who were rested (???) in the intra club last week too.

I'd much rather see senior players like Judd / Fev / etc get a run in a game like this than on some dodgy oval in the middle of god knows where.

If only for half a qtr at a time.

Throw Jacobs in there, see what he's got to offer!

Good to see FOOTY's (almost) back.

AFL site is useless as usual but according to Ch 7's site I'll be watching the game in HD :)
