Not sure why we didn't do that last year. Hopefully development will be given whatever resources and staff required.

I have already answered this question. Jason McCarthy was the man to run the development. He had basically excepted the job then he pulled out at the last minute. By the time that happened it had gotten to the stage where all other suitable candidates had jobs elsewhere.

Such is life in business.

No! That can't be. We screwed up, so the story goes on TC.

Sometimes this website surprises me.

This is probably one of the most important and positive things to happen in the development of our side over the coming years, and I log on this morning and see that it is less popular than a thread about the rebuilding of Visy Park (has been happening for months), what happens if Fev gets injured (glad to see Budzy back to asking his off season curlers, but it has been dealt with during most of the season... important, but not as important as this), and the game on the Gold Coast (announced 1 week ago officially, and leaked onto this site maybe one month ago).

So where's the excitement over this guy's appointment? I mean, I wouldn't know the bloke if I tripped over him in the street, but surely this is a great move? We were all bemoaning the lack of structure last year because Development was left to Teague and Lappin without a head man. Well now we have the head man, and we have Teague and Robert Harvey working under him. We have a Head Development Officer who took the third youngest list in the league to a Premiership in 2006! How good is that everyone? Like seriously... how good is that??? Don;t you just reckon that kids like Aaron Joseph, Joe Anderson, Jake Edwards, Shaun Hampson, Mark Austin, Steven Browne, etc are champing at the bit to be working with a guy who brought so many kids through at the West Coast Eagles so well?

Anyway, well done to the Club on this move. They've got their man, and I suspect his appointment will be just as important for the 2009 team as Justin Cordy's was for the 2008 team. Well done Dick Pratt, Greg Swann, and co.

An important hire for sure. I don't know much about him, but from a structural point of view, his role is critical for any football club. We're sure building a WA mafia down at Visy Park these days, aren't we.

Budzy, what did you mean about him being out the door at West Coast?

Based on what I have heard from him, which DD mentioned previously, he sounds like a serious get for us and one that will set us up for years in the developing of our players to be Premiership players.

After seeing Judd running the Tan last night - several times, I cannot wait for 2009 to start.

Molly, perhaps the lack of action in this thread is due to the fact that no one knows anything about this guy.

Also, it may be an indication that people aren't unhappy (double negative, I know).

I for one am very pleased that the Club has seen fit to appoint a Director of Development. I have no idea if this guy is any good, but I do believe that we needed to appoint someone to the role.

As the years go by, it becomes more and more apparent that there are 2 areas of a football club that are critically important to onfield success. (aside from senior/assistant coaches and players): recruiting, and now development coaches. We've been behing the 8-ball in the development area, when compared to Collingwood, West Coast etc. Hopefully this appointment redresses that situation.

How's that intervention order going DUC

Seriously though, does the WA connection stop at Icke and Hughes? we have a premiership coach in Riley also ...are they connected?

I made sure I didn't fall in front of him bill, but damn it was hard to do that.

He is sooooo hot when he runs. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr 8)

I think the WA connection begins with Judd and ends with Judd.

He is da man.

@#$%&! yeah! This is exciting. Yet another big step forward towards #17 and I don't think there's a single reason to be pessimistic. A good development academy means that there is a much higher chance any player we draft will go on to contribute in a big way to the CFC. Imagine if JR came into the system now - flaws ironed out, strengths honed. Still not too late but this will be a HUGE benefit to the likes of Austin, Bower, Grigg etc and even moreso our future draftees.

Love it.

Bingo. There's no pre-conceived notions (unlike Robert Harvey), good or bad, about the bloke from people here so some find it hard to really comment until they know a bit more about him. But I do agree that despite this, this is news to get excited about, as it fills another gap left behind from the Pagan-era, and that again we can be confident that if he's good enough for Pratt/Swann/Icke/Ratts, then he's good enough for us. I think with every new person who comes on board we can be confident that they can do the job.

Due process, quality appointment - all the boxes ticked.

Well done!

I'd forgotten about JMac - might have dodged a bullet there. This guy sounds much more experienced, and when they appoint someone none of us seems to have heard of, it makes me think it is an appointment based on merit over profile. Will we appoint a separate Ants coach, will this guy do it, or Teaguey?

Im glad the club has made this appointment and acknowledged such a key aspect for this club to being successful.

Getting right the off field personal is just as important as on field. The club now having outsiders in Harris and Harvey along with Riley and Montgomery working with our young players is a benefit to the club. Throw in Diesel and Braddles to that mix and the boys now have a great mix to be motivated and mentored by

I agree DUC.....when he runs, he looks a class act.....almost an effortless loping action.

His mate who he was running with Warbs, was seriously struggling.

Dare I use a word I used to describe My Smurph, but Judd is seriously sublime!
