Just getting over the line against the Bulldogs in 2003 in one of the most excruciating games of football I have ever seen...

Damn straight. The penalties were just salt into the wounds.

For a lot of the time I was pretty numb, as we copped so many hits I just started to not feel any pain anymore. But nothing got the bile rising in my throat like our rd22 game against North. As soon as Doctor Edelston won the flowering Carlton raffle and a car, I knew that things couldn't get much worse. A 20 goal hammering later and I was more furious than any time in my life of watching football. It was the only time I could empathise with those guys hurling abuse at the players as they went down the race, and throwing membership cards at them and the like, which hurt even more.

Yep. The rd 22 North game. Never felt so empty.

I thought I knew what it felt like to be a St Kilda or Footscray supporter in the 80's was like.
Actually scared that the club may fold the way we were travelling as a club after that game / season.

One of my lasting memories of season 2005 is Neale daniher gathering his players in the middle of PP after the siren that day & giving them an absolute spray...jut for letting a side like us come back at them in the final qtr.

Interesting this thread should appear, I was with some mates last night discussing what has been our worst loss in the shit years. My nomination without hesitation was the Richmond debacle at the G in 2005. Was 50 points to 1 or something ridiculous like that at one stage.

And the talkback radio the week after wasn't exactly one of the highs of the year either :roll:

CK I remember that game, I had to take my daughter to a birthday party and they had foxtel on and I just couldn't watch. My brother was overseas at the time and wanted score updates, I didn't have the heart to ruin his holiday. I too remember SEN and that $#!t head Matt Hardy really giving it to us on the drive home show :evil: :evil:

For me there was to many to name, but it was like a soap opera at one stage with our club.

Oh well that was the past, now it is the future and beyond!!!!!

Round 22, 2003. What a defeat - 124pts v Kangaroos. Also Rd 22 2005 v Swans - 92 pts. All the other points mentioned off field were all pretty dark episodes as well - agreed. We were a basket case, but now we are not. 'But for the grace of God, I go'! Getting philosophical there. Well, it is preseason!

That game against North was certainly a low point.
We got into a debate with other Blues fans over our worst player.
Strong cases were put up against Fletcher & Wiggins.
Sporn copped a bucket too as well as Livingston & Franchina.
We weren't fighting about it - there were so many maligned players.
Our list was so bad that most Carlton fans were happy with all of the second hand players we drafted at the end of 2003 - not that we ended up with much to show for that either.

Yep alll of that and when he turned up on TC to answer our questions...he even answered one of mine I thought after that we're screwed how insignificent and desperate is this man acting?

I always knew...we are Carlton we have so much backing so when things really blew up I knew we would get back on track. I never had any true fears that we would fold although I couldn't put my finger on what we would need for our resurgance either...i just knew something would have to happen to start things.....

Waiting for a flight at Coolangatta Airport, I decided to go to the new agency to buy the herald sun and catch up on news from home.... on the back page there was a comic drawing of a doctor holding two X-Rays.... 1 of a carlton jumper and one of a fitzroy jumper and the doc saying "i see stricking similarities"....that's when it hit me how low we had gotten...

Sir Richard there is no way i could explain how grateful i am to youu

Having to listen to Mick Martyn speak and then endure Denis carrying him to his 300th game as a Carlton player was one of the lowlights of my life not just the last 5 years!

Bring on the future

A few of the following:
* The last game at PP;
* The game against the 'Aints in 2004;
* Smorgo going on TFS to "explain" the Carlton crisis;
* Denis Pagan (and his failure to move with the times);
* Opposition supporters besmirching the Blues with such gusto- that was both gut-wrenching and provocative! :evil: ; and
* Losing so often by 100+, I did question whether we'd be competitive against Fitzroy in their doom....... :oops:

:shock:

The Brisbane game last year
Round 1, 2005 - totally [REDACTED] our year after being 11th in 2004 and winning the preseason comp
Thumping after thumping in 2003 - I think from about round 15 to 22 we only lost by less than 7 goals once
Worse than Fitzroy both financially and statistically
The Angwin-Norman incident wasn't particularly sweet either
Last game at PP was rather empty really, and not worthy of the name

Man this thread is depressing! Can it be deleted......please? :lol:

In all seriousness though, just goes to show how far we've come. Can't wait to continue our rise back to where we belong.

That's actually why I put it up MPH78... just to show how far we've come. 2009 will see us taking more massive steps forward.

Rd22 2003 against North.
We were sooo bad yet didn't have any high draft picks forthcoming to help us rebuild. I barely could see any light at the end of the tunnel and Laurence Angwin was my great white hope.
The beatings in 2005/06/07 weren't as bad IMO as we knew that the likes of Murphy, Gibbs and Kreuzer were waiting in the wings.

Another lowlight was knowing we were going to be smacked by the Saints one particular day, so took the family to the zoo so I could totally avoid footy for the day. Think we lost by 100.

Going into every week expecting to not just be beaten, but beaten soundly was worse than any one game or incident. What had once been the excitement leading up to the weekend's game had become meek resignation, and when we did manage to grind out a win the normal elation had been replaced with a terrible kind of relieved feeling, the feeling that a mistreated dog gets that one time in 10 that the hand is open for a pat, not clenched for yet another belting.
