and for the record, if i was a hawthorn supporter i'd be flower bleeding that I get to see my team live less than any other Melbourne based club. is this the path you want to go down? cos it's a shit one if you do. may as well follow the bulldogs model and drop the name carlton... just call ourselves 'The Blues'.... but that's almost meaningless now too, cos half our games we play in white. flower me.... who are we again?
yes my argument is extreme, but if you start going down this track, where does it end? if its ok this time, then its ok next time. then its ok to sell of a couple of games a year, and if thats ok then why not 3 or 4?
interstate supporters see it from a far diffferent perspective to the Melbourne based supporters IMO. but when you're used to seeing your team live nearly every week, you don't want to give that up. If there was a way to be sure that it was just for the next couple of years, I might begrudgingly accept it, but I fear that the easy $$$ might become relied upon and lead to the above scenarios.
Once again interstate supporters may not see this an entirely bad thing, but IMO it would be nothing short of disasterous.
I love that there people who live thousands of miles away who love the blues just as much as i do, but let's be honest. The heart of this club has been and always will be based in Melbourne. The supporter base that is the flagstone of this great club is for the most part based in Melbourne. I appreciate that many of you buy memberships with the prospect of maybe only getting to a couple of games a year, but the truth of the matter is that the % of our membership base that are in this situation is minute. Dont' get me wrong, I love you guys for showing that kind of dediation, but there are plenty of fickle members around. plenty want to see value for money in the purchase of a membership, as well as good onfield performances. Piss these people off at your own peril and a perceived drop in value for money is a good start
So, you are against this move because you fear Carlton's brand will be tainted and you wont get to see the blues live as much as you would like!
The move to GC is good for the brand, helps out the coffers, gets us out of TD where we struggle to make money, members get the same amount of games, and gives the large fan base in Qld a chance to see their team more.
All in all there are no negatives cos we are playing freo not Brissy. I am sure once we are out of the current TD and are playing our home games at the MCG, the club will not be as keen to 'sell' home games (I dont think that term is appropriate BTW because we really are just shafting TD and members still benefit).
Better get used to idea that the blues playing interstate because with the 2 new clubs everyone is going to be travelling more not less!!
