so once the GC well dries up, what then? start selling home games up to Alice Springs.... untapped zone there. imagine being in there first. think of how much we can grow the brand..... or maybe we just start selling home games against brisbane to the gabba, and sydney to anz stadium. why the @#$%&! not, think of all the $$$ we'll make. If the best idea to raise funds is to sell our home @#$%&! games, then we may as well still have smorgan running the joint.

and for the record, if i was a hawthorn supporter i'd be @#$%&! bleeding that I get to see my team live less than any other Melbourne based club. is this the path you want to go down? cos it's a shit one if you do. may as well follow the bulldogs model and drop the name carlton... just call ourselves 'The Blues'.... but that's almost meaningless now too, cos half our games we play in white. @#$%&! me.... who are we again?

yes my argument is extreme, but if you start going down this track, where does it end? if its ok this time, then its ok next time. then its ok to sell of a couple of games a year, and if thats ok then why not 3 or 4?

interstate supporters see it from a far diffferent perspective to the Melbourne based supporters IMO. but when you're used to seeing your team live nearly every week, you don't want to give that up. If there was a way to be sure that it was just for the next couple of years, I might begrudgingly accept it, but I fear that the easy $$$ might become relied upon and lead to the above scenarios.

Once again interstate supporters may not see this an entirely bad thing, but IMO it would be nothing short of disasterous.

I love that there people who live thousands of miles away who love the blues just as much as i do, but let's be honest. The heart of this club has been and always will be based in Melbourne. The supporter base that is the flagstone of this great club is for the most part based in Melbourne. I appreciate that many of you buy memberships with the prospect of maybe only getting to a couple of games a year, but the truth of the matter is that the % of our membership base that are in this situation is minute. Dont' get me wrong, I love you guys for showing that kind of dediation, but there are plenty of fickle members around. plenty want to see value for money in the purchase of a membership, as well as good onfield performances. Piss these people off at your own peril and a perceived drop in value for money is a good start

Well the deal with the GC is for 2 years so I am hoping that we have reduced our debt and in a much stronger financial position that we don't have to sell anymore games after this deal however if there is good $$ to be made elsewhere why not look at it. IMO this is an opportunity to make some nice coin.

So, you are against this move because you fear Carlton's brand will be tainted and you wont get to see the blues live as much as you would like!

The move to GC is good for the brand, helps out the coffers, gets us out of TD where we struggle to make money, members get the same amount of games, and gives the large fan base in Qld a chance to see their team more.

All in all there are no negatives cos we are playing freo not Brissy. I am sure once we are out of the current TD and are playing our home games at the MCG, the club will not be as keen to 'sell' home games (I dont think that term is appropriate BTW because we really are just shafting TD and members still benefit).

Better get used to idea that the blues playing interstate because with the 2 new clubs everyone is going to be travelling more not less!!

I'd be happy to piss you off sooky-trousers. Try paying for a silver membership and one for your daughter because you love the club and you do it year in year out knowing you are rarely going to be able to get to a game. I did the same when I was overseas. Our family gets to see a resurgent Blues twice in Queensland next year, (and I'm an ex-Melbournian mind you so I know the crack- and the crap- down there). But a modern club has to be resurgent both on the field and off, especially when the are steadying the ship after some pretty precarious years. How was your value for money then when we were getting flogged week in week out?

It's easy money for the club, it's euphoria for old and new Blues fans in South East Queensland and Melbourne members still get an eleventh game.

I hope you cheer up by next year mate.

I agree - no downside (except for Melb based Freo supporters and who cares about them).

I agree with Cranium, we are whores and the AFL are our pimps.

If we become reliant on this income stream we will end up selling home games all the time and to more then one place

+1.

Been a silver 11 match member for more than a decade.

I've got less than a year's worth of matches out of my total memberships in that time. Hear me sooking?

And why would you get to see Carlton any less next year than any other? One match. HTFU.

Geeze... dont the Vics have a sook....I am a fully paid up member every year ...and sometimes we dont even get a game up here....let alone 11 - 16 games to see close to home .

This is GOOD... we dont even have to watch them play Brisbane , which is a better bonus....

Catch a plane up for the weekend ( as I do once a year down to there ) dont get me wrong... I love Melb and thinks its a great place home of Footy and all...but its a lot nicer up here on the Gold Coast for a weekend a year....Lots of nice skimpy eye candy as well...

Give it up cranium and others ,,,...you sound like spoilt brats who dont want to share their toys...boo hoo

I'm in favour of playing games on the Gold Coast as long as it comes from the Sydney games allocation...

i wont give it up. I reckon its crap. its my opinion and i am comfortable with it. read my post properly. my concern is not the immediate future ie the next 2 years, my main concern is that it becomes relied upon to make money for the club. selling home games is pathetic. as i have said before, if that is the best way the current administration can come up with to make the club profitable, then we haven't moved on far from the smorgan era at all.

why is it so wonderful now yet when it was suggested a few years ago by smorgan, he was seen as an imbecile? the idea is the same, yet because it comes from the 'new' carlton it must be good... it is ok to disagree.

look, i didn't post to start an argument. i post to express MY opinion. you guys seem to want to argue about it. you resort to telling me I'm sooking, and I don't want to share and blah blah blah. Your opinion is yours. good luck to you. you're happy cos you get to see carlton play. i'm stoked for you. my opinion has been expressed. you disgaree as is your prerogative. thats it for me.

One of the biggest problems with this site is that any time someone voices an opinion that a few don't agree with, you get shouted down, belittled and made to look an idiot.

Good on you for expressing your opinion.

However, in the long run, it will make little difference, and the positives in terms of support and cash will be remembered, and the few negatives will have gone by the wayside long ago.
