It's interesting to see that Collingwood have appointed Paul Hudson to an assistant coaching role today, where he'll seemingly be primarily responsible for their forward line.

I realise we can't have everyone on board, but I've heard only very good things about Hudson from those who should know, and his ability to think outside the square and do things a little differently is held in high regard. Would've been a nice replacement for Crosisca, but I concede that only those at the coal face could really make a judgement call re Hudson, Lappin and whomever else.

Going by RiverRodents excellent Bullant reports this year I find it peculiar how Lappin got a promotion.

I reckon it would have been interesting to be a fly on the wall in the club and watch how the appointment of Lappin actually progressed.

Would be very interesting to know how many names were considered for the position, how many people were sounded out, how many people were interviewed.

Perhaps he was spoken to and opted for the Pies instead.

Who's peturbed?

You seem rather overly-defensive in this thread for some reason when all Gerry and one or two others have done is simply questioned the Lappin promotion, but that's ok. Each to their own.

Reading RR's reports gave me the impression that Lappin may have at times gone by the 'do as I say, not as I do' rule, which Id've thought is not always a good philosophy to use when teaching. Do you disagree with that?

I'm sorry..........you said you found it peculiar I just presumed that you may have also felt perturb along the way about the perceived peculiar happening.

Perturb
1. To disturb greatly; make uneasy or anxious.
2. To throw into great confusion.

I only responded to Gerry and not 'one or two' others as you have suggested and that had more to do with his conspiracy theories regarding Corsisca and Ratten than the appointment of Lappin.

RiverRat has posted some personal thoughts on Lappin throughout the year that weren't glowing. Obviously those that work closely with Lappo on a day to day basis see more in him than what RR may have at times. Perhaps those close to him have a better understanding of his strengths, weaknesses and abilities than the casual observer.

I guess it's abit like watching the budding recruits on a 3 minute youtube clip and drawing the full range of conclusions about the player.

Regards Cazzesman

Sorry, but I don't class RR as a mere 'casual observer', and I don't liken his dedicated weekly observations to a 3 minute youtube budding recruit clip.

Onfield performance is what a coach should be ultimately judged upon.
RR's observations re Lappins onfield influence are very clear and as you say, aren't glowing.

I do however understand where you're coming with your position as a CFC employee.

RR use to say that the bullants were a better side with Lappin off the ground. Said he tried to do too much while on it. Perhaps he is better up in the coaches box.

RR may have said more but that is what i took out of all his comments.

Another poster said they saw him clown around at training once.

I trust Swan and Pratt. Whatever they decide is good enough for me.

Isn't Skinny also one of the coaches for the Aussie team? Guess we could take that as a nod of confidence in his abilities, but still scratching my head over showing Gav the door.

Given that Lappin is now an assistant has he officially retired from the Bullants?

Over the past two years I have seen Gav at many of the Bullants games, he was on the ground at 1/4 and 3/4 time giving the young players advice. He always seemed positive and constructive to the players. I was very impressed with Crosisca and am surprised to hear that he is no longer with us. Out of all the senior coaches he attended more games.

Good luck Gav.

Just to clear up what I meant by the 3 minute youtube analogy......

RR watched Lappo play in the VFL which is small isolated part of Lappos week at the CFC. He also sees him at training from time to time.

RR doesn't see what input Lappo has 9-5 Mon-Fri in the players review sessions, planning/strategy meetings, Coaches conferences, Football Department meetings etc etc. (For that matter either do I, but Swanny and StIcke and Ratts obviously do)

In other words RR sees a snippet of the full package that is Lappo.

The analogy is therefor that it is like supporters watching a 3 minute youtube clip of Ziebel or Sidebottom. Until you have watched them play numerous times in numerous conditions against numerous opposition then undertaken all the other relevant inquiries into their character and family you are only getting a small sample of the complete package.

Here endeth the explanation.

And yes I do enjoy RR reviews of the VFL as much as the next supporter and I find him to be highly accurate in his observations. He is obviously a huge bonus to have on TC.

Regards Cazzesman

Lappin shouldnt have played for the Bullants this year

He was a development coach yet when he played he stop the development of the players by monopolising the play. This didnt work from the games I saw.
Whether Lappin is a good communicator is something we both dont know but Ratten and co think he must be to earn a promotion.

Obviously the communication and listening skills of both Aisake O'hAilpin and Lappin were not firing on all cylinders the day they had their little spat.

The only thing I will say for certain is that its one of ths club's small tradgedies that Aisake never played a senior game for Carlton :(

Heard that Saddo might be getting a gig as an assistant coach at the Blues.

Has anyone heard anything about that?
