It would have been Geoff Southby but we played him out of position for his entire career.

According to Geoff Southby... :?

Greg Kennedy......48 games.....143 goals....and he didn't like the City at all.....was very unhappy here; yet kicked 12 goals against Hawthorn at PP in late 1972; and could have been anything.

Jezza for brilliance.....and Fevola for his long range kicking ability.

Have to go for Soapy - great conversion rate and in his day as big a name as Fev (and just as good a shot from a long way out)

Should have been Stephen Oliver....

Playing behing Sticks he would have been our first 150 goal full-forward

Do you mean Tony Southcombe with the specs.

Had to agree with the earlier post re Greg Kennedy, coulda been a contender, a real dead eye dick he was.
Got a giggle at some of the almost forgotten names like Ogier, Galt etc.
Heres one from left field for you, Phillip Poursanidis.
Killed them in the magoos every week and only had a few seniors games and couldnt get near it alas.
Ditchburn was about as deadly as Fev too.

But had to vote for the most famous of all 25's Jezza.
When Fev kicks 7 in a Grand Final im happy to reconsider !!

Earlier poster mentioned re Fev dominating in a crap side etc, fair point however Jezza had blokes like Walls, Jackson, Crosswell, Keogh and Jones all sniffing around in the same forward line, he always got the best defender and still was dominant, and a bloody genius to match.
Jezza has it all over Fev in marking department but Fev is a far superior kick, Jezza had his days of spraying them, 6 goals 12 points against Hawthorn in 1969 when we kicked 30.30.... ahh those were the days....
AND THEY ARE COMING SOON TO A VENUE NEAR YOU !!!

Greatest one i've ever seen...................

Jezza was well before my time (Sadly) and i was only very young when Sticks was dominating the way he did.

But i love Fevola. And i'll stick by my words (from a previous thread where i got a whacking for saying what i'm about to say again)...... I think Fevola is already a Carlton Great.

My only regrets is that he will probably never be able to Captain the side. He has all the charactaristics of a legendary Captain, just has a few flaws standing in his way!

But, if he keeps up with his average goal return, which is around the 60-70 goal mark, he could well end up going down as our greatest ever goal kicker, surpassing Stick's record!

Going on yesterday's form in the city, he's certainly our all-time best dressed full forward.

No offence Ryan but other than being a bloody good footballer which of the characteristics of a legendary captain does Fevola actually have?

Discipline?

Intelligence?

Natural authority?

Selflessness?

100% commitment?

At the moment I think only Judd and Gibbs have all of those characteristics and Fev's a lot further away from a full house than most on our list.

I think he has commitment. In the past 3 or so years he has really stepped up his chasing and desperation!

Sure, he cries every now and then, and there in lies the Flaw i was talking about. He'll never be captain cause with Fev, you just have to take the good with the bad............... it's a package. You can't have one without the other.

But he loves the club, loves his team, and loves to win....................Hid desire is top notch and he bleeds navy blue blood.

Barry Hall is a classic example. He made a great captain for his club and lead em to a premiership albeit with the help of two others, but still............ he has zero Discipline.

And as far as intelligence goes............... yeah sure, he's a dumb shit off the field and sometimes on it, but he has an amazing awarness of the play. So regards to Football intelligence, he has more than most when it comes to that.

But like i said, he's flaws will always stand in the way of him becoming captain.......... but not from becoming a Carlton Great!

If he keeps up 80 goals or so a season for a few more years he'll definitely be our most prolific goalkicker....

Best full forward I have seen is probably Fev. But Stick was the best forward I have seen on and off the field.

So everyone has different criterias...

Goals were harder to come by in Soapy's era when it was legal to kick the ball out of bounds to waste time.
Any one know how average scores then compare with today when we have flooding and so on?
Anyone else at Princes Park in '69 when Carlton kicked 30:30? Big Nick had an on-field presence that I haven't seen the like of.
Big Nick finished with a handy 6 goals from the forward pocket in the '72 Grand Final as Captain-Coach.
Sticks' 7 goals in a losing team in the '93 Grand Final was great performance.
Jezza and Baldock had awesome skills. As a Carlton suppoter I rate Jezza ahead of Baldock.

Jezza was great....but he was great in a great side.... Fev has been great in a crap side and now in a great side....which tips it in Fev's favour IMO....
