Steven Browne, Carlton, has been charged with a Level Four engaging in rough conduct offence against Jason Porplyzia, Adelaide, during the second quarter of the Round 18 match between Carlton and Adelaide, played at AAMI Stadium on Saturday August 2, 2008.
In summary, he can accept a three-game sanction with an early plea.
The incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), severe impact (four points) and high contact (two points). This is a total of seven activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Four offence, drawing 425 demerit points and a four-match sanction. He has no existing good or bad record. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 318.75 points and a three-match sanction.

How was it high contact? Because Porplyzia's head hit him?

(Yes, I know Gieschen doesn't have anything specifically to do with the MRP, but it's all a symptom of the same shit.)

Just out of curiosity, how many did Milburn get?

Absolute joke

The high contact was because Porplysia was falling and landed on Browney's shoulder.

Challenge.........

I am totally gob smacked. What a blatantly ridiculous footnote to what was already an ineptly officiated match.

With the footage that was shown how on Earth did they come up with that. Incidental contact if there ever was one.

I don't know how Lenny Hayes survived without a mere mention. Port player had his head over the ball, Hayes slides in and his shoulder makes reasonable contact with the other guys neck. Had the guy gone off in a stretcher like Porplezia, Hayes would be out for the season. It seems like the review board are spending more time watching footage that follows the incident than the actual incident.

TV report has Carlton contesting the penalty.

It's only come about because the Crow has a bruised brain and is out for the Season.

It was miles off the ball. They probably wouldn't have hit him so hard if it had been in the play.

I hope they do contest it.

The outcome of the contact shouldn't really enter into it. It's about the act, not the result.

The worst part is that that %&*^$% Milburn got the same penalty for deliberately smashing a guy's head into the ground in a tackle.

This ruling is one of the most disgraceful rulings I've ever seen.

All Carlton members should email the club in support of fighting this injustice even if it has to go beyond the AFL tribunal system.

All of you think if this was your favourite player .. Murph Judd Gibbs Fev .. completely outrageous and a disgraceful injustice and slur against an innocent young player.

I call for support for our Browney!!!

This must be the worst decision handed down since Diesel getting 9. Truly outrageous.

Do you think they viewed it harshly because Thornton back-slapped him afterwards?? I think that was "good on you for not flinching" - but I'm sure it could be read as "Showed him.....well done".....

I think it is ridiculous and will be dismissed, but by the same token, I can see where the grounds for it being intentional could come from.

The swear filter blocks everything I think of the MRC, might make the next installment of the Great Aussie Joke book.

This comment is about as disgraceful as the proposed 4 match ban for Browne.

I can't believe milburn gets 4 (down to 2 with good record (obviously no carry over points from the time he took out SOS) and early plea) for that tackle, whilst Surjan did the same thing to Rob Harvey, and didn't even get cited!!! It was very close to being exactly the same, milburns was probably a little later, thats all.

MRP = ridiculous this round.
