Ratten only got offered two years which looked like a caretakers job to me unless he got outstanding results and then would be offered an extension. Plus I think he was only a fallback position after the hot favourite Voss changed his mind and probably got tapped on the shoulder about the Gold Cost job....
2 years would be about the right time frame for some of the heavyweight coaches like Roos, Malthouse, Matthews etc to come out of contract and become available....
I dont know about Worsfold but Pratt and Swann dont sit back and wait for things to happen they make it happen and I would anticipate they would be all over any coach with a history of winning a flag and rebuilding a team.

Paul Roos would be highly sought after IMO and I think he would my favourite to get offered the job......unless Brett Ratten can make great strides next season...

Ratts needs a couple of big scalps -Its is alright beating Melb -Freo and WC when they are out of form but he needs to bag a couple of un expected wins . Apart from that i think he is safe . we have a horrible run home the last 7games are tough

Why the hell change?

how many years did woosha have at the eagles before he won a flag?

how about we support our coach. hell pagan got FIVE seasons.

ratts deserves this and next at least. we've won 4 from 9 and have blooded a lot of new guys who are starting to show some promise.

i hope this is just BS

regardless of whether ratts is the best man for the job ????

like he might be.... but will you qualify that statement.. or leave it unqualified...????

at what point did woosha become a good coach? when he won a flag? how many years after he got the gig?

FFS some of these posts are unbelieveable.

How many coaches have win a fag in the last 20 years?????

And what has Woosha done???

Well no forward line.. 4 midfielders a ruckman and an ok defence he delivered quite abit....

Ok lets turn this around......

What has Ratts done to be a senior coach at all???
I mean its all objective.....

but you asked what Woosha has done.. and he may be a dud with a flag.... lots of coaches have been duds and won flags....

but whats Ratts done to be a senior coach at all???

Where was he before he came back to Carlton and why ???

Read my questions Sailor Man and then answer that question.

At what point did Woosha become a good coach?
When he won a flag?
How many years after getting the gig did he win the Flag?

According to you Ratts is garbage, so replace him.

You were more tolerant of Pagan, which is astounding if you think about it.

Did Ratts not sign an autograph for you when you were a Sailor Boy? Is that where your lack of patience stems from?

Under chick..????

No i asked you what pedigree did Ratts have to be a senior coach at Carlton???

And i have Ratts autograph why would i need another one???

As a matter of fact it was after the 95 GF on a jumper of Ang Christous number on it..Got Diesel Ang and Koutas on it too.....

But can you tell us about Ratrts and why he was to make a fine coach???

And what has he done????

Sure... he might win a premiership too... like Woosha has.... but so far it aint looking like it...bcause we dont do basics.. and if you cant do the basics you wont be doing the intricate stuff... and if you cant do the more intricate stuff you wont be winning much...

Anyway.. why deflect???

Why is Ratts the right man for the job long term.. on what he has done to get the job and what methodologies he has used for us to progress...

any ideas down chick???

Ratts has had 10 flower games (last year doesn't count obviously as we were never going to win those games anyway)

i cant remember... :P

I think people get carried away by emotion ....

Its not about Ratts... its about whats best to take the team forward...

If its Ratts thats fine...

But personally all year ive been hanging out for a pattern which is evidence we know what were doing out there....

but alas....

....

I would be very suprised if they gave Ratts the old heave ho after such a short stint.

You can't expect him to turn them around so quickly, it takes time.

Then there's the other issue being the players having formed a bond with him as he has earnt their respect. Do you break that so quickly and expect them to just carry on as if they are seasoned players?

I think Ratts has to be reviewed at the end of the season like any other coach.

He has given Carlton no reason to panic. Our biggest loss has been by 56 points to the reigning premiers, who were on the rebound.

Pretty good improvement when you look at the big picture.

Armfield had a great debut, Browne has been fantastic, Bower has had a great year in defence with Jamo, Kruezer has been excellent. You can bet your bottom dollar Ando will blossom under Ratts aswell....

Plenty of positives so far, and positives clearly outway the negatives so far IMHO.....

Interesting proposition this one.

Worsfold by all accounts is still hugely respected at PP.

Personally, I like him as a coach, of all the parties in the WC saga over the last year, he probably came out of it with his repuation intact.

It would be a safe bet to say he'd get the most out of the backline pieces, and he clearly knows how to set up a midfield to work as a unit.

I'm happy with the way Ratts is going - but IMHO you have to respect runs on the board and Worsfold has them.

Roos is a pipedream, he said again this week he wouldn't leave Sydney. Matthews and Malthouse are on their last gigs. I personally would love Craig, but that probably isn't popular around here. Worsfold or Williams would be next on my list.

anything is possible and nothing should be discounted.

for those old enough to recall, Percy Jones had one year in 1980, led us to third spot and then got the flick.

Jezza took over mid-season 1989, coached 1990 and then Parko was back in 1991.

Then again, Pagan took over and no-one wanted him there, the players said he was shit so he flicked a heap of senior players and we became the arse of the AFL.

It's all crap really.
