Matty Knights has been torn a new a*se hole cause his of his directioin to play attacking football. He will not budge on his plan and trust me the Bombers will be a better side for it. He does not have the cattle at his exposure yet but they have some neat young players and will grow from strength to strength because they are playing with a positive outlook

Where as our NEGATIVE keeping's off uncontested brand of football our young players are being instructed to play is uninspiring and from what i see as frustrating.

Last night and the past few weeks something hasn't looked right out there. Now i've heard this from a Kangas power broker he said he would love Murph at Arden street

This is the same guy who told me about how Pagan and sticks tried to woe Boomer Harvey across to the blues with a 600k a year contract and the captaincy several years ago. The dinner was held the night before the Kangas smashed us at the Dome by 100 points. He told me Mckernan was leaving back for Arden street as well

drugs are bad for you

No eight cups of coffee a day are bad for you.

I feel as if we play a somewhat negative style of play and this can be a little uninspiring at times. But saying that when we've tried to have shoot outs we have lost

The Kangas are chasing Smurph

I'll take wells+hansen+1st round pick thanks. If not they can get flowered

Hawthorn aren't that good ey?
Shit i dont know how much more they have to do to prove to the world that they're good...

When you boast the likes of Buddy Roughead Lewis Hodge Mitchel Brown Croad Birchall and Bateman (to name a few) on your team i think they're going alright....
And dont forget the youngsters still coming through....
Theyre the real deal, with Buddy or without!

The tempo footy played late in the first half was not pretty, but effective. We were 19 points down with 7 mins left, geelong could have killed the game before half time. As it was, they did it soon after, but at least we know when to play tempo footy now and are getting half decent at it (hint: keep it away from Setanta).

Disagree totally, for those who see endless attacking footy as the path to success, take a look at Hawthorn 2005/06, who were routinely criticised for over-possessing the ball/being defensive etc. Also Essendon* on Friday night werent exactly playing gung ho attacking footy were they?

The difference with Ratten and Pagan is, Ratts has a style of play to suit the personnel, whereas Denis just played his way, regardless of the teams strengths or weaknesses.

The reason why Hawthorn circa 2005/06 and Carlton of 2008 are not playing super attacking crash and bash footy is because the players physically aren't capable of it yet. I remember people thinking it would effect the Hawks development, which doesn't seem to be the case.

No the difference is Buddy Franklin. Take Buddy out of that side and the Hawks would be back with the rest of the pack

So what you are saying is without star players, team would be worse (Hawks minus Franklin, Carlton minus Judd).

So for Ratten or Clarkson to be classified as good coaches they need to set up premiership sides without any stars

In other pearls of wisdom I believe the following:
Geelong would be weaker without Ablett
Sydney would be weaker without Goodes
Bulldogs would be weaker without Cooney
Brisbane would be weaker without Brown
Freo would be even crapper without Pavlich

So from what you are saying Melvey, Ratten is in a no win position already. If we win, its because we have the personnel, if we lose, hes a crap coach.

Being a premiership side means having a combination of personnel & tactics which can get the optimum out of the group, and I believe with our list and Ratts we can achieve that.

Settle down

Is that code for 'I realise I make little to no sense with my observations'?

It's you interpreting what i said as something completely different.

I don't think the Hawks are that good. Buddy makes a huge difference but good luck to them

I wouldn't say completely different, just taking it to its logical extreme.

For arguements sake, where do you think the Hawks would be without Franklin? In terms of ladder position, I personally feel, still in the top 4.

Exactly

Its a simple philosophy, when we have the footy, they don't

I got abused by Carlton supporters for supporting the tactics used at the end of the second quarter.

Lets say we were up by 7 points with 2 minutes to go in the game against Geelong last night. Would you complain if we played tempo footy then?

Because if we ever find ourselves in a situation like that we will have confidence that we can keep control of the ball for the remaining two minutes if we have been able to do against the best side in the competition and to top it off we were rewarded with a goal.

Why are people complaining now anyway? We did this heaps earlier on this year and we did it perfectly against Collingwood which won us the game.

Not surprised you got abused when the majority of fans out there are clueless and fail to realise that the game has changed, they still want us to play like we did in the 70s i.e hoof it forward without looking and they scream "kick it longgggggg kick it longggggggg"

Five years of playing soft, rudderless football. Ratten is trying to introduce accountability, defence and the skills to possess the ball. 50m bombs to Fev don't work and I seem to remember us giving it a fair crack. I'm fairly sure we're not playing the game that Ratten wants, but we're working towards it.

He wears the number 3 jumper.
His first name is Marc. (thats with a c at the end not a k)
He enjoys playing football.....
And most teams...infact i'd go as far as to say every other bloody team would want him on there list!
Good snoop work Melvey!

I bet it's not.

They have a talented player who's about to call it a day come years end and Murph would be a handy pick up.

Obviously you know more than me regarding the blues then can you at least confirm our big play for Boomer Harvey then, the 600k a year contract thrown at him then the day after the kangas smashed us by 100 and Brent gave the blues crowd a 2 finger salute. My info is not from the blues it comes within the kangas directly

I think this comment is ignorant and fails to recall 5 years of no switches, no changes, trusting the old guys and sticking to 1 plan that. I've seen enough of that and don't want to see it again. You think a team of Pagan's coaching would have had all those kids on at once? You think the long bomb to a pack of 5 with the Cats' pace and defence would have been a better bet? IMHO the answer is no and no - Carlton is in a much better position now and has a better Coach for the modern game.

We went into the game with a young team and a list still deficient in a number of areas versus the best list in the game, great Coach and a bunch of 24-27 year olds of proven skill and strength? I'd have taken a 40 point loss before the game. 56 isn't much worse than that.

ps I think anyone looking to leave Carlton for North wants to be sent interstate in 2-3 years time. It just wouldn't happen today - 2006??? 2008 No way.
