Whether he challenges or not he is going to get a week, so he is better off challenging and ride his luck :?

I only saw the incident once. I agree it was silly but my first impression was it wasn't all that bad and that he might get away with not missing games. That would've been the case if he didn't have the carry over points.

IF he won't get two if he loses at the tribunal, I'd challenge.

And of course he had to do it with a depleted backline and pissed off Geelong around the corner. Very silly

I used to work with an old bloke who was almost autistic in his ability to waffle on in detail about nearly any event ever played out in history.

He was a keen footy fan, loved Essendon*, and I remember once asking him his opinion on a young Jarrad Waite.

"Waite? He's a rover basher, just like his old man"

I chuckled at this at the time. I think it was 2001.

Since then I have made a point of watching Jarrad when in physical encounters on the field.

I have often witnessed him trying to rough up smaller opponents but cannot think of a time he had a go at anyone the same size or bigger. I remember him smashing Crawford one day behind play and getting two weeks for that. He's not a dirty player, but he doesn't mind getting a few cheap ones in IMO.

Can anyone tell me if there's any basis to this? Is it just my mind highlighting these incidents since hearing that or is Waite a bit of a "rover-basher"? What was Vin like?

Why put yourself in that position?

At least hip and shoulder.

Take a look at the incident and tell me what part of his body hit Peake?

There was no elbow, there was no forearm, there was no fist. There was no real finesse to it at all.

He looked like a girl trying to hit a guy. :-D

It was Mayne that he hit. It was in the last quarter. He hit him in the face, it was soft but a really silly thing to do.

He aint getting off.
He should take the week.
Are you watching the right incident DUC?

Grant you I got the player hit wrong, but I'm pretty sure its the incident where the player went down and had some trainers around him. They replayed it once or twice, if that in the last qtr.

My old man can confirm that Vinny was a cheap shot expert...don't know about just going after the smaller types though..

Rather he misses this week than any other. But if the sentence cannot be increased I would challenge.

Basically I don't think we need a tall backline against Geelong. They only have two talls, Mooney and Hawkins. Hopefully not Ottens as well.

We should bring in armfield and anderson to take on Chapman, Johnson and Stokes.

I think the key is run the ball out of our backline this week. Geelong are totally different as they rely on midfielders and small forwards to kick a bulk of their goals.

We may have Bannister who would suit that role well as well.

Take the punt ratts bring in Army and Ando.

This is what Collingwood did successfully last week, they dont have tall backs.

Setanta (Hopefully fit) - Mooney
Bower - Hawkins
Ando - Johnson
Carazzo - Chapman
Ando - Stokes

Fevola, what were the Collingwood match ups of the above players?

Bullshit !!! Vinny handed out plenty and copped plenty. The ledger was squared.

I don't know what the matchups were, but Collingwood only have Wakelin and Brown as tall backs. The rest are smalls; Shaw, O'brien, Clarke and Lockyer, Swan.

I noticed that Didak was coming back to help a lot and so was Johnson.

Ratts would no doubt look at that game.

Thanks Fevola.

I would hope that Ratts was at the game on Friday night. :-D

Nah, would've been busy planning for the dockers. But no doubt he'd have been watching the tape as soon as the dockers game was done with.

That incident warranted a free kick and NOTHING more.

It was bloody stupid by JW, but to get a week for it is absurd.

The AFL may as well issue skirts from now on - because the game they are pushing isnt footy anymore.

The actual offence didn't warrant a suspension and he was only given a reprimand, however he had 97 carry over points from an offence within the last 12 months therefore he has copped a week.

Just the way the system works, lucky last time not to get another week, unlucky this time.

I thought it was more a push to the face then a striking action

1 week is worth it to put the wind up some opposition.

I like seeing a bit of Vin come out now and again.

Waite was pretty tough and used to bust packs open as I recall - however there is a school of thought that when he was really needed to stand up in that 1973 Grand Final - (after Balme KO'd Southby and Fowler ironed out Big Nick) that Vin Waite went missing - unfortunately I dont have a very good memory when it comes to our losing Grand Finals  - Warby maybe be able to clear this up.

It wasn't just Nick and Southby that got hammered, Vin Waite and Phil Pinnell also copped ''bell ringers'' that would have stopped anybody in their tracks.
This all went on under the nose of the umpire, Ian Robinson, who chose for reasons known only to him, to do SFA about it.
Sheedy was even quoted recently as saying what he did to Pinnell was unacceptable, and the incident was one that he regretted. A big admission coming from him.
It was open season on Carlton players that day, and Robinson's inaction played no small part in the result. But to lay the blame on Vin Waite is neither right nor fair.
