I think you need to learn the words buddy

We are the Navy Blues,
We are the old dark Navy Blues,
We’re the team that never lets you down,
We’re the only team old Carlton knows,
With all the champions they like to send us,
We’ll keep our end up.
And they will know that they’ve been playing
Against the famous old dark Blues

A keg put on for the people who rock up to watch...

A session where they concentrate on hitting targets between 30 - 55 metres by foot.

- picking the ball off the ground
- lots of short distance speed running
- tackling
- kicking practice, extra sessions for Waite
- spoiling of the ball, extra sessions for Scotland and Stevens
- Lots of 1 on 1 body shepherding practice.

I want this to be in a boot camp type of environment, if you didn't do what you were suppose to do during the game, you do it here at training.

Bower get on the same diet and weights programs as some of the young Maoris and Islanders who train with the Storm at PP.

Have you seen the size of the Storm players who are the same as age as Bower?

Agreed! Why can't they use some of the expertise next door at The Storm too.

...some of you inadvertently let leak that you know next to nothing about the game you love so dear... But some of you are spot on...For those that didn't quite pass, might I recommend some AFL coaching accreditation as a starting point? Let's see...

You do realise that if Paul got as big as some of the Storm boys, he wouldn't be able to run more than 20 metres before collapsing in a heap? PB has actually dropped a few kilos this year and used the preseason to build strength through his core and to improve his endurance. I for one think he's come on in leaps and bounds this season. Of course his body will change over time but I think early to mid 90's (kg) should be the limit for someone of his age and position. Turns 20 in September remember guys.

This has been a real feature of the Ratten/Reilly training sessions. The boys regularly practice their kicking, on the run over this distance. Only time we did that under Pagan was when the boys did circle work.

Quote:
I would like to see our players kicking from varying distances and trying to get the ball inside a garbage bin.

Woah! Adrian McAdam type stuff there! But I see your point. Believe it or not - the weighting of kicks is something that was practised, however I haven't seen much of it since the closed session began. Steven Browne is very good at this - as is Judd, Murph and yes...Scotland.

Quote:
Kicking at goal from a set shot.

This is practised after each session...something we need to get better at though, for sure.

Quote:
Get some of the Storm players in to teach them how to stick a damn good hard tackle.

Much better getting a rugby union guru down there because the RL boys actually try to charge the tackle...so the tackle is 98% inevitable. RU boys try and sidestep and get passed the 'would-be-tackler' like our guys do. David Parkin employed a RU guy in 1982 to help us with our tackling ...needless to say it worked.

Quote:
Kicking in after a point strategies, other than chipping sideways.

Doesn't seem to be practised enough. I don't necessarily mind the sideways chip if it creates movement down the field - but it's that second kick that goes over the 50 that's the critical one. Ruckmen and wingmen need to do more as part of the kick-out which is a set play for every team.

For the most part - this is called the 'Pre-season'...but you'll be glad to know that the boys still punish themselves accordingly when they miss the target...leaders for the 'Give me 5 Push-Ups, NOW!' Trophy are Dennis Armfield, Brad Fisher, Clinton Benjamin and Bret 'Chipper' Thornton.

So...what I'd like to see (or not see)?

1. Our current coach was as good an exponent as any the game has seen with regard to the 'underground handball'. Today's players are taught and for the most part execute quite well the lifting the arms above the head so as to free the arms in order to give off a clean handball. Yet Ratts and Diesel had the skill to whip off the underground version in traffic prior to the tackle being laid...not difficult to learn nor execute and I'd like to see it being practiced at training.

2. Making sure we have players on the defensive side of a ruck contest - particularly at around the ground ball-ups and throw-ins.

3. Senior players not calling for the ball when they're under the pump. Most of our supporters blame the kids, but Stevens and Carazzo are repeat offenders and if you're 18 playing game number four and your 200 game vice-captain calls for it - you're going to give it to him aren't you?!

eg. Stevens running around the back of Kreuzer for a cheap handball late in the game on Sat night instead of telling him to go back and take a set shot from 50. Cheap.

Not sure who was at fault there, but I agree it was very bad play from one or both of them.

Ian Thorogood humiliated the players by making them roll in the mud when Carlton lost to St Kilda after winning the first eleven games of the Season and that was the end of that year’s premiership.

And I thought I never let anything go.

Hey Warbs - is there anything from Jack Worrall's tenure as coach your not happy with - only asking because you were there. :P
