Let's just hope that this guy is from outside the normal channels of persuading a recruitment manager from other teams. God knows that being elite means that it can't be Hines.

I would like to think that it would be someone from the junior acadamies who would have intimate knowledge of the top ranking junior players and what and where thier weaknesses are

Cheers Kenny. He has done very well for Geelong...albeit with a bit of assistance from the father son rule.

Kinnear Beetson, responsible for putting the Brisbane Premiership sides together, they have been speaking with him for a while!

All the leads point to Stephen Wells coming across so we might as well put Geelong's drafting under the spotlight. I am working on the assumption that he has been in charge of recruitment for the club since the 2003 draft. Overall with the exception of the 2003 draft, even after setting aside the father son draft picks,it would be fair to say Geelong have done very well out of the draft system, particularly in 2004 and 2006.

2007
Pick 17 Harry Taylor
Pick 34 Dawson Simpson
Pick 44 Scot Simpson
Pick 60 FS Adam Donohue

2006
pick 7 J Selwood
pick25 Djerrkura
pick 41 FS Hawkins
pick 57 Simon Hogan

2005
pick 15 Travis Varcoe
Pick31 Trent West
Pick 47 Ryan Gamble
pick 61 Matthew Stokes

2004
pick 32 Prismall
pick 48 FS Nathan Ablett
pick 62 Mathew Egan

2003
Pick 7 Kane Tenance
Pick 22 Cameron Thurley
Pick35 FS Martin Blake

That's not even funny as a joke!!

Say goodbye to any kind of trade with other clubs if we get him.

I'd suggest Steven Wells has done well out of the father/son system, agree he has had his moments with the draft but I'm not sure I would label him with the tag elite recruiter.....

Stephen Wells has been at Geelong since 1983 in development and recruiting roles. He has drafted every current Geelong listed player. Based on that I'd say his eye for talent is pretty well proven. I'm sure he would be a very worthy addition to our team.

There's a very interesting article written by Matt Burgan in September 2007 titled 'Foundations for Success' which looked at the Geelong and Port sides and how they evolved.

The club has been working on this for a while from my understanding. They have spoken to several key people in the recruiting game, and have now acted. If we wanted Beatson we would have had him by now.

He is actually working for another club in a consultancy role at the moment which expires the end of the season.
