Other clubs seem to be able to pluck big bodied players from nowhere and put them on as a rookie and the results are, well, for all to see.

We don't. We like to rookie guys at 179cm for instnace. Which is fine but we rookie too many of them.

Agreed. Why the hell are we using the rookie draft to recruit midgets like Michael Jamison, Sam Jacobs, Setanta O'hAilpin, Aisake O'hAilpin, Craig Flint, Daniel Batson, and Sam Pleming?

Point missed again.
Take the irish out of the equation as they don't apply to this discussion. We are talking about kids playing in the various comps around Australia. Besides Jammo, how many will play long term for Carlton?
And Flint and Pleming were not the 'big' talls that Conundrum is referring to. From memory, Flint was 189cm?

The irish don't count? Even when they were selected in the rookie draft and we're both rookie they still don't count. Right....

Sorry but the Irish do count because they are players and they were on the rookie list. You can't just ignore certain players just because they don't suit your arguement. We'd have been idiots if we recruited more KPP rookies then we did because we already had rookies of that size developing.

Plus how many KPP rookies play long term anyway? The answer is not very many. Michael Jamison is a find and he's all you need when defending our rookie recruiting practices.

I believe that perhaps we have too small a recruiting network.

Do you think if our recruiters were taller, we'd get some better tall players? Sorry couldn't resist.

Rookie drafts are never going to be a be all and an end all of a clubs future. We have done well overall, me thinks (Carazzo, Thornton, Bentick, Jamison to name 4).

For a greater example of bad drafting look at the 3 top selections we got from the 2000 draft.
