Alice Springs- Great climate for footy in March.

Almost guaranteed to be over 30 degrees with the possibility of "raised dust"(must be terrific for the lungs :!: )

To me it looks more like The Spew is checking out the baboon for a bit of action later.

At least now we'll be playing the game using the proper rules.

I take it most of our players will not be taking the flight to the Alice.

Good opportunity to play the Ants team instead.

Me thinks Hammer won't be playing after hurt his testicle last night - ouch.

Play on after rebounding off the goal post...

Bullshit!

Easily the best rule in the NAB Cup.

Should be introduced in to the season proper.

Team down by a point at the full time siren, but player has shot at goal to win the match...

Hits post, ball bounces back into the field of play, team loses...

A WORSE kick would have scored a point, and scores would have been tied. I repeat, a WORSE kick would have tied the match.

No bullshit here.

Three different outcomes from that scenario.

Hit the post, and goes through the goals; goal.

Hit the post, and goes through the points, point.

Hit the post, and rebounds back in to play; game ends in a draw/extra time.

Fantastic rule.

Please reread your response then reconsider your logic.

A worse kick might have gone on the full? I see your point but. But wouldn't it be great if there was 5 seconds left, we are down by 5 points and we had a shot for goal and it hit the post. Rebounded back into play and we kicked a goal. Why should you be rewarded 1 point for missing the goal anyway? Plus if your close enough then kick it above the posts height.

If your the attacking team would you prefer 1 point OR for the ball to hit the post and be play on and a chance for 6 points? I think i would take the risk and go for the 6 points. If it's after the siren then bad luck, it's just like your running into a open goal and the siren goes before you kick it. Bad luck.

Football teams need to travel during the season proper, so whats the difference between now and during the season... at least players - particularly the kids - will because a little more accustomed to traveling to play and recovering after the flight back.

That and giving backwater locations like Alice Springs (apologies to anyone that lives there) and the like a chance to watch a game of AFL I think makes the exercise, although pointless - worth it...

Disagree - best rule in the NAB Cup would have to be the 'kicking backwards in the back half of the ground is play on' rule.

That`s right. Ratts just said on 3AW that most senior players wont go to Alice Springs.

I reckon we can rule out Judd making his debut up in the Alice.

The Age said that Collingwood had a team with "close to 1000 games of AFL experience" up against Geelong's VFL team yesterday. Going down to Skilled Stadium is much easier than getting to Albany.

I don't blame Ratts for doing the same - as per PPW's post.

You have to wonder what is going on in the head of the people who choose these venues. Are the AFL trying to help the clubs to prepare for the season? Are they punishing the teams that lose in the nabCup? Should the teams that lose in Round 1 get the big trips? At least the teams that lose in Round 2 took their first game seriously.

According to Ratts 10 senior guys not to play coupled with injuries means the rest of the list going up to the territory -gets some more time into youngsters and enables others to freshen up given we play on March 20

so now we're aff to Alice Springs for this dumb AFL initiative.

What a load of rubbish. yes its wonderful that the AFL want to grow the game etc etc, but seriously how can making clubs travel to remote places requiring them to take long plane flights and all the crap that goes with travelling be good preparation for the season proper.

at this point of the year clubs should be refining everything and in their final preparations for round 1. it should be about clubs having the ability to get their players ready for the season. the advantages gained by having a hit out against another side in a practice match are far outweighed by the disadvantage of having to play in remote areas on cow paddocks.

hardly the ideal preparation. they should tell the AFL to get stuffed and just play intraclub games, or organise their own praccie against a like minded club. up yours AFL. I hate you.
Just play most of the kids, they can't do anything as long it's Carlton listed players and if they took it to court,i really can't see them winning unless it's written in stone, who has to play.

Agreed. I was that frustrated by the "exciting rule changes" in the NAB cup that I was probably more annoyed by them than our first 1/4 showing.
