LOL. Profiteering from a family day, maybe he brought the kids too, its easier to get more Judd signatures that way. :garthp:

I'm not in a box. Your thinking is. Maybe the recipient of the sale was a kid who really wanted a Judd signed jumper.

...and that kid who ends up paying over $180 for the jumper might really want one so badly because he missed out on getting his jumper personally signed for no expense at the family day.

That's the error - where people try to disaccociate money from time and effort. People who were not Carlton Supporters had to PAY to go to Family Day. People who were members had to PAY to be members.
People who stood in line paid with their time.

Further points:

1) How do you know the person who auctioned the jumper initially had the motive to sell it?

2) Who gives a shit? I'm sure Dick Pratt or the Carlton board don't.

Further, if "he" gets "stuck" with it, it may appreciate and be worth a lot more in time.

You know what, you're right. I missed out on tickets for the Big Day Out this year because thousands of tickets were bought by scalpers, which appeared on eBay just hours later. I should've been happy to put a couple of hundred dollars straight into somebody's pocket, solely because of the time and effort he took buying them to sell on eBay in the first place.

Now back to reality

1) See that blue scrolling bar just above the item description? The one with all the 'limited edition' and 'hand signed' memorabilia, and how much they're currently selling for? The guy must have alot of hungry mouthes to feed

2) Clearly everyone posting in this thread gives a shit, for starters. There's a good couple of dozen people right infront of you. But imagine for a minute that you were a footballer and had signed a jumper for someone for no personal gain, then happened to be browsing eBay and saw it being sold (with a 'certificate of authenticity' too, need I mention), along with another 40 items along the same lines. I know a number of our cricketers expressed their frustration at this a couple of years ago.

Good luck with your auction.

The cricketers who critised this are being hypocritical. Aren't they the same people who get paid thousands upon thousands for selling brands on TV commercials. Wam, bam thankyou for the cash Mam. In the meantime you're bitching because you only get to rant on the net. For the record, I have nothing against Cricketers being in TV ads, and neither do I have anything against "SCALPERS" after all they're hardly using a tomahawk to tear the scalp off people. They are simply driving up the market price, as obviously the ticket numbers were limited with a large demand. All this means is that the organisers undercut themselves in the first place. That's why you couldn't get a ticket, not cause it was too expensive but because others were prepared to pay more than you for the tickets real worth.

and maybe his dad is rich and the kid missed out on family day bcoz the whole family was taking holiday in the Whitsundays, and his mum is too busy shagging the postman to ever take him to training when Dad is working...........so the kids rich Mum buys him the jumper as long as the kid promises not to tell his dad he saw the postie leave his parents bedroom after he heard his mum squealing like a pig and moaning like a ho......who cares....as long as the Postie used protection..... the kid got his Judd signed jumper........the bloke on ebay made an easy $100......mum & dad's marraige is still intact.....win win win

And therein lays the reason why the american public have to pay for their hero's autograph. I am all for profiteering and making some money but why shouldnt Mr Judd or the CFC get some benefits too as your selling his name on the jumper?

Mr Hacky, as pleasing as your little 'maybe' land is, MAYBE the guy who is selling the jumper is a grubby little profiteer who rather than doing things the proper way ie doing this WITH everyone's consent and paying proper commissions - like you're supposed to - decides to go to family day (a fundraising day for the club and a chance to get to the grassroots level of supporters) and take whatever he can get his hands on to flog off on ebay. Again - while he and his minions are standing in line all sweaty with 10 jumpers each to be signed, some little boy and girl who's mother has been with the postman, is about to go on their first holiday for 10 years to the whitsundays, etc... has to stand behind them waiting because they love the CFC and just want to meet their heroes. Unfortunately they can't get those signatures on their caps because by the time their turn comes family day is over.

What a ridiculous argument. I don't think the Keynesian dynamics of a free market economy really come into play here. Scalping is illegal. If you need some further direction on the decent way to get jumpers signed to sell, get in touch. Otherwise, this really is pointless and pathetic.

Now - what were the rules on signing in with two different names...?

Our club probably made a profit from Family Day and they're not "grubby". Why can't this individual? Anybody who disagrees please type "Socialist party" in google and join one at your soonest convenience. They'll help to make sure that YOU never make a profit for yourself.

YOUNG LIBERALS UNITE!

Mr ghost, have you ever been a part of a sporting club or community group? Have you ever tried to fund these organisations? Have you ever seen the amount of effort that goes in to keeping these things running? And have you noticed how family day is connected to a little thing called a football club? Yes - it is a full time club. And yes - they do have sponsorship. But - it is still a football club and one of the things I still love about AFL is that there is a connection to the community clubs that means they value not only the dollars of supporters but the actual contact with the community - the supporters - that comes with the family day. Yes it is another way to make money for the club but - as I hope you understand - they need to have these events to help with that. Now as the member I'm sure you are you know that having these days is an accessible way for giving people who normally wouldn't a chance to sign up. Don't get me wrong, I understand it's a business and it's all about the money to some... But when the postie's illegitimate child is there waiting to get the autograph of their hero...maybe you could tell them market forces are stopping them from doing so...

now where's my beret...
