I could only ever support such a move (and barely so) if, as part of the move, an entire suburb in western sydney was renamed carlton

There's already a Carlton in Sydney, near Kogarah (down towards "The Shire")

Be a bit difficult seeing Carlton is already located next door to Kogarah.

Not Sydney as it has no class, but maybe regional Victoria if the opportunity was too good to refuse.

Ok here the arguements for it:
- Blues = NSW (a match made in heaven)
- Pratt will not be around for ever
- We could become the most popular team in Australia by gaining support of over 50% of Sydney and still have our strong Carlton family
- it would mean The Blues will be around for generations to come as we have corporate support/AFL support
- We don't play at our home anymore and development will be completed in West Sydney and we will have our own home ground again where opposition teams can fear us.
- Will become the most marketable team in the AFL
- More free to air opportunites in Melbourne
- Get out of Princes Park because the residents don't want us there anyway
- AFL are putting pressure on Melbourne teams to re-locate or fold
- We will get a larger salary cap than everyone outside of Syndey because due to cost of living

We could make this work :-D

Diamotism you must be a Sydney Sider, anyway it’s a good tread for a laugh and to get an angry respond.

I am a die hard Melbourne lad. Sydney is a beautiful city but Melbourne is number one.

Sydney and Gold Coast are the growth areas in AFL so teams that re-locate to these cities can expect strong growth and support from the AFL.

Can anyone tell me and others on here how Carlton expects its supporter base to grow?

We don't need sherry sipping, opera watching, mardi gras participating supporters.

Since we'll be joining forces with the 'gestapo' on the AFL commission, why don't we sell our soul to the devil as well? I'm sure he can offer much more than they can.

I rather merge with a enemy like Collingwood or Essendon* then have anything to do with Sydney.NSW is the big rubbish of Australia into rugby, when AFL is Australian. If there is a market interstate,Tasmania are real AFL people, not pretenders.

I was a South Melbourne supporter until age 9 when they headed north to Sin City. My old man and I declared we could NEVER follow a team from Sydeny.

I'd be gutted if I lost another team north of the border!

You can not be serious with what you are saying here. For starters, Carltons membership hit record levels last year and thats with ordinary performances on field. Now that all signs indicate that we are on the way up, there is little doubt our membership and support base will also rise. In response to your question, Carltons supporter base is up there with the largest in the competition and therefore do not need to consider such a rash move. A question to you is, how much of its existing supporter base and membership might they loose if they were to relocate to Sydney?
