Good luck to him if he wants to go but his resume isnt that of a CEO. He's a footy manager. The Dees ;ast CEO was a newspaper editor. Why dont they hire a CEO? Someone with business management skills.

Spot on. They need a Campbell Rose type who can turn the finances around. That's their dilemma. After that they need a Balme type to run the footy ops. Icke would be a good option for that role, however given he's already doing it at Carlton I couldn't see him moving to Melbourne for that.

According to Laurie Serafini who is the "headhunter" employed by MFC Icke is not on the hit list and as far as he is concerned Melbourne has not spoken to him. He also stated that if Paul Gardiner has spoken to Icke he does not know anything about it.

...and that is exactly why Melbourne is a poisoned chalice.
Paul Gardner is well known for making comments without consulting the relevant people.
He takes it upon himself to speak on behalf of the football department, administration and players without gaining their views and thoughts first.

His carry on about the drugs issue was a perfect example.

Mixed messages then.....

Quote:
Melbourne chairman Paul Gardner said last night the club had spoken with Icke and planned to do so again.

"He says he's up to his neck with the Blues, but we intend to talk to him again," Gardner told the Herald Sun.

Icke highly sought after: herald Sun 12/2/08

If Stephen has aspirations to be a CEO that's fine. I just wonder if now is the right time for him.
He may be better off staying in his present role at least for the for the next year or two, increasing his knowledge and expertise in a professional and supportive environment.
If down the track he then decides to throw his hat in the ring for a CEO's job, so be it and good luck to him.
I believe in the future there will be far better options for him than Melbourne.

Melbourne would need to prove to any half-decent candidate that they're not a basketcase. Probably not a bad club to be involved in if you're in the footy department, but as a CEO it's hard to see the upside. Not much to work with there. Actually, pretty much nothing to work with there.

At least with North Melbourne, Arroca either (a) 'saves' the club and is a genius or (b) gets to transition the club to the Gold Coast, which isn't such a bad read on the CV either... and from a corporate perspective, taking the team to Australia's fastest growing market is a bit of a coup.

How quick would Dick go sick, or would he stick his hand in his kick, if Icke gave us the flick, and went the knick to Melbourne as his pick?

Can't deny a person his/her right to fullfill his/her professional goals. He's done well at Carlton and I wish him well if he gets the gig at the dees. I bet all the other clubs are nervously awaiting this outcome.

Would be very poor timing to lose our football manager this close to Round 1.

Melbourne have spoken to Icke and goes to show the real loyalty of blokes paid up to come to Carlton.

Money and ambition rules for most, not love of the club.

Carlton cannot cry after poaching others.

Thats right.

I just dont see him as a CEO, but then again I didn't see Steve Harris as a CEO either.

Tell me how many of us are crying?

We've wished him well if he moves on. It would be a great loss, but we won't have too many problems replacing him.

Clue up, biffo, this isn't bigfooty: most of us realise that paid employees of football clubs aren't there for the love of the club; it's their career.

Icke doesn't love carlton. nor does swann. Judd doesn't love carlton either. But Pratt does, and he purchased these people for those of us who DO love the club.

If Icke scores a CEO's gig and feels it's within his ability, he should take it. But I'd question (as have others) the wisdom of choosing the Melbourne job as your make-or-break first crack at that position.

Not sure if anyone heard the AW interview with Ratts tonight and I am not sure if I heard correctly, but the dweeb in Dwayne was asking Ratts about support staff and what not and the Dweeb said with with Stephen Icke possibly going to Melbourne, Ratts quickly said, he's not, but the Dweeb being so self absorbed, didn't hear him and kept talking.

Didn't anyone else the Ratts comment??
