the "interest" in the issue was indicated by the only 10% turn-out at the vote yesterday - to turn the offer down!

pfft .. "We don't want $100M .. stick that up your ar.e" is what that says

so is North Melbourne going to survive?

Is there any reason why they won't?

Wouldnt it be great if everyone in victoria started following the VFL again, the AFL would crumble and we wouldnt have to put up with their constant disadvantaging of Vic clubs and all of their other crap.

nonsense

explain how.

if the afl ceased to exist Deano, the game would become fractured, and be state based. Hyundai wouldn't pour in millions to sponsor a suburban club, for their money they expect national exposure. all the sponsors would pack up and take their chequebooks to another sport like rugby or basketball or soccer.

victoria doesn't own football. the vfl was slowly turning to shit before the interstate teams were admitted. the game is big business now, rightly or wrongly, but it is. the days of suburban warfare are long gone. i'm not saying i like it, but that's how it is, and the clock can't be turned back

i don't understand the argument that the vic clubs are disadvantaged.

how?

Don't be so sure. The AFL has massive support on the Gold Coast, and we're ten times as mental about our game as the dour League mob.

I dont have any feelings on this.

However Melbourne can not handle 10 teams indefinately, the interstate clubs will KILL us.......

Do the Maths , people per club per state ALL Melbourne clubs will struggle as we go forward unless they all have MASSIVE poker machine revenue, or other non affiliated businesses propping them up.

North long term are stuffed.

Thats just the thing. They have to large non-football related deals in place to continue.
I can't see why it can't be done if they have the right business contacts.

I think it is more how the interstate teams are advantaged over us.
The Swans get salary cap concessions, the eagles spend $30,000 more per week then some victorian clubs (plus they have different size ground which allows them to develop a game plan which makes it near impossible to beat them at home, why not just put the lines further in??)
and they also have entire leagues to observe and rookie from on their doorstep.
Look at the eagles, started in 1987 and have 3 premiershipsand runners up twice. Same deal with Brisbane. Port and Adelaide both have flags too.
Whereas the saints have only one to their name in how many years. Whilst the cats just broke a 50 year drought

yeah, fair point. but is that because there are too many teams in victoria competing for the same dollars?

since 87 - the saints wouldn't have won a flag anyway, and the cats had 4 opportunities to win a flag in 7 years from 89 on but weren't good enough.
