There were some very talented players in both the 86 & 87 reserves premiership sides.
But I recall Robert Walls saying that following our victory in the seniors in 87, on the ground amid the celebrations, Wes Lofts congratulated him on coaching the LEAST TALENTED Carlton side to ever to win a premiership. Interesting comment, but when you recall how we struggled after 88 , it was accurate.

Mick Kennedy can't be right as he played in the 1987 GF. I think he went to the Swans later in his career.

Mark Buckley went to Brisbane fairly early in their life, maybe he has been confused with Mick Kennedy?

I'm pretty sure that the three players that we "gave" Brisbane were:

- Peter Kenny
- Michael Aitken
- Bruce Reid

Neil Gaghan, Mark Buckley and I think Stuart Glasscott (David's brother) went up to Brisbane at later stages to play senior games.

Next time you try to log in tick the 'remember me' box just under the login form before you press submit. Hopefully this should work.

This should be the same for pretty much everubody since the site was rebuilt after the hack attack.

Michael Aitken was the good looking one.

The Girls loved him and he loved the Girls

Anyone remember 'The Understand'?

Looking up the archives of my dear departed mother (BLue Momma's) contribution to Talking Carlton, spent my childhood roaming Princes Park until wee hours as my parents socialised with the Carlton staff, players and supporters, luv ya' mum.

I remember walking out onto the middle of the MCG with my Dad, as we both worked as statisticians for the reserves, a memorable day of celebrating a premiership.

Considering we won teh seniors as well that year, what an awesome list!!!

1987 Reserves Premiership Team
B: 33 Richard Foster 28 Peter Kenny 5 Steve Da Rui
HB: 10 Brad Shine 13 Mil Hanna 46 Paul Starbuck
C: 41 Peter Rohde 16 Jim Buckley (c) 25 Ian Herman
HF: 39 Mark Williams 51 Gerard Butts 48 Mark Majerczak
F: 57 Phil Poursanidis 34 Darren Ogier 53 Fraser Brown
Foll: 42 Mark Edwards 37 Wayne Harmes (vc) 19 Andrew Phillips
Interchange: 40 Robert Miller 54 Luke O'Sullivan
Coach: Col Kinnear

What irritates me about this team is the number of guys who didn't QUITE make it, often because of injury.
Richard Foster had pace but didn't do a lot afterwards.
Paul Starbuck was around the edges for ages but ended up playing his only senior game for someone else.
Ian Herman didn't quite make it after looking pretty good.
Peter Rohde went to Melbourne.
Mark Williams fiddled around the edges.
Phil Poursanidis really looked good, but was gone soon afterwards.
Mark Edwards just disappeared.
Robert Miller was a little slow, but a great mark.
Andrew Phillips was crippled by injury.
Rhino O'Sullivan was ruined by injuries.
Wayne Harmes was on the way out. So was Jimmy Buckley. With modern training methods and medical staff those 2 could have played at least another 50 games each.

Actually it was back to back, with this list from 86--

i1986 Reserves Premiership Team
B: 13 Michael Aitken 29 Ian Muller 43 Mick Kennedy
HB: 10 Brad Shine 53 Ian Aitken 19 Rohan Burke
C: 12 Adrian Gleeson 5 Ken Sheldon (c) 41 Peter Rohde
HF: 39 Mark Williams 1 Stephen Silvagni 40 Peter Kenny
F: 49 Darren Ogier 22 Warren Ralph 34 Alex Marcou
Foll: 52 Jamie Dunlop 28 Spiro Kourkoumelis 14 Rod Ashman (vc)
Interchange: 42 Neil Gaghan 57 Michael Gallagher
Coach: Col Kinnear

This lineup was one most other clubs would have killed for back then. In fact, our present side would look less than impressive compared to this lineup. We would kill to have forwards as good as Silvagni and Ralph and true rovers like Ashman and Marcou! Even Jamie Dunlop in the ruck would hold his own against most modern rucks.
