The crashing bridge just about sums it up perfectly I'm afraid.

Promised so much early, and really was great for us for a patch there, but ultimately Lance didn't deliver, over his entire career, as his prodigious
talent suggested he might.

Thanks for the good times Lance, all the best in retirement.

Well said camelboy. He had a body better suited to the VFL in the 80s. He was a decade too late. He would have snagged two or three from a forward pocket in the '87 Grannie. Especially getting delivery from the Dominator and Braddles!

Just watched the 99 PF again - and he could chase. Admittedly it was only Paul Barnard but Lance's physical work that day was quite good - and then there was the 50m goal in the last quarter.

Looked a bit sluggish even in 99 - but he was always one step ahead of his opponent and that got him out of trouble.

If he'd have stayed in the 1999 body, he might have been ok but his weight ballooned this year and there was no way even being 1 step ahead of everyone in his head was going to compensate for it.

Only Carlton player with over 200 games not to have a premiership medallion. Dubious distinction.

Sadly what Lance needed more than anything was one of these

That said, he played for the Carlton football club. I wish I could have done that.

Good luck in retirement, fellow Ranga.

Is it just me or does that Camp Eden sign look like a 3 legged pig with snout in the trough? :P

Hmm, De Lorean DMC-12 went out of business after just 2 years. Kinda apt for Lance I suppose. Neither went the distance.

I remembered thinking "here's our next premiership Captain" when he made his debut in '97.

I still reckon we should have made him Captain instead of Kouta.

que sera sera

Thanks Lance for the great games you played.

I remember hearing on the radio once, after about 3 years of his career, that Lance had better stats all round than Wayne Carey at the same stages of their careers.

Unfortunately, I believe that because of Lance's success in his first few years, he may have felt he only had to turn up & it would all happen for him. The game quickly passed him by and left him behind.

Good luck for the future Big Red.

Just goes to show one should never be happy with the list they have. It's all very well to sit back proud of oneself and to say we are look nice and pretty, but it doesn't mean shit unless you win a Premiership. Carlton should always be searching for ways to better their list and should always be thinking about what the list will be like in 5 years time.

I thought the photo was of a burnt bridge ie. he has burnt his bridge and won't be able to come back to the club now?

Unlike Kouta, who pocketed good bread but still re-invented his game and won a B&F (after his knee injury), Lance, let's face it, took the piss for many years with his up and down weight and form.

Look, I'm a huge Whitts fan, but I'm happy this is all over. It's unfortunate that it's been a nightmare year for Whitnall...and that would have clouded the decision making, but the "hope that all would be ok" was well and truly gone by season's end and Ricky Nixon should have been planning a smarter exit strategy than just yelling and screaming about the club.
A sad, sad way for a great career to end. What is Nixon's cut of all this, anyway?! I'd be renegging on that deal

Now MrsG doesn't know anyone in our side, except maybe Chris Judd ..

Very sad indeed ..

I'm with you Caz - you people do realise he was actually a Carlton player don't you.

Farewell Lance. A sad way to go out.

Without that goal from outside 50 in front of the old members stand in the 99 Prelim we wouldn't have bragging rights over those hapless bomber fans!

Thanks Lance.
