Pratts plan is to ensure we're self sufficient and able to stand on our own before he leaves.
good call...Pratt came to the club and stated 'i could very easily open my bank account and clear the debts, but i want to put in a board who can prove themselves as competent enough to be able to generate large profits year in, year out. Simply bailing the club out of its debts is a short term bandaid fix, and we need business strategies in place so that we do not fall back into debt.'
or something along those lines....
Very true. More than money we needed good administration, and a football department that will be the envy of everyone else in the comp. If Dick were to just open his wallet and hand us the dough, that would be validating our mediocrity over these past few years. We wouldn't learn anything and would more than likely @#$%&! up again, expecting our white knight Dick to bail us out once more. What he's done is much better long-term, by brining people to the club who could not only provide the financial nous to get $$$'s to the club, but who understand football in the 21st Century both in football terms and business terms.
I think Pratt will remind us all of the bad times, and that we should not ever become so complacent again. If we do, he'll bugger off, and he would be right to do so. But as long as we stick to our goal, Dick will always be a part of this club and will always help us out during bad times. I hope that whoever succeeds him next year is cut from the same cloth, and that we can continue what Dick started.
It's a classic 'leaving the nest' thing. Dick has shown us the way to get this football club back to the top where it belongs, but it's up to us to realise that dream.
