I asked Swanny about whether there was any chance we would ever play at Princes park again, and the answer was an immediate and emphatic - No!

What's happening with the Gardiner Stand? I would have expected it to have been knocked over by now???

Does the club have any say in this?

If so, I fail to see why we'd want to help the filth by letting their development team play on the best surface in Victoria.

@#$%&! em

I'm going to ignore the news about the Collingwood VFL team, and focus on the BlueAnts playing half their home games at PP next year.

If we definately go ahead with that, those in power at the club better get someone in to clean up every single toilet block there. The place is a public health hazard.

God knows what the fans will think today at the VFL GF. Ewwwwww.

Carlton's development team wearing red ant-jumpers and playing only half their games at Princes Park, while Collingwood's development team wears black and white stripes and plays all their games at Princes Park.

That stinks a hell of a lot worse than any backed-up toilet ever could.

Agree Mrs Caz. The loo in the Hero's stand had no lights, no running water. Stairwells full of broken beer bottles & pidgeon crap. The place is totally run down.

It sounds like a working bee over the summer may be required. I'll bring a sandblaster...that'll get rid of the stains and the pigeons.

If it is as bad as you suggest, and I believe you...well that's disgraceful. Fancy inviting guests (football and non football) to our ground whilst it's in such bad condition. It will only generate an association with our club which is not needed after all we've been through over the last 5 years.

Something must be done!...without creating too much media attention.

But an official working bee would be a good news story...says something about our pride, where we've been and where we're going.

Calling Directors Stephen and Mark.

The bird crap is really bad in the top level of the Pratt stand as well (at least it was in April this year).

Hardly anyone goes up there and it is covered in filth.

I wish we'd gone with the standalone side... it would've been a perfect "next step" in our rise back to the top. And we're locked in with the Bullants for another 5 years, aren't we? :(

Back to the topic: are these facilities going to be elite? Will they compete with the likes of Collingwood's and West Coast's?

Further to the elite status question....Can anybody tell me a start date to the upgrade. Maybe Mrs Caz has the answer?

Thanks

According to Synbad Pratt will be injecting a few mill of his own to ensure that the facilities are "state of the state of the art".

This might have come about due to the eligibility of Chris Judd (Pratt contrubuting additional funds to up the ante even further)

Looks like the National Trust are interested in boh the Heatley and Gardiner stands, but particulularly the Gardiner .

http://www.nattrust.com.au/conservation/heritage_watch

'The Trust has written to the AFL and the City of Melbourne calling for a heritage study into the stands at the Carlton Oval, and a rethink of plans at both North Melbourne and Carlton to incorporate these significant elements of our football heritage into any redevelopment of the grounds'.

'At the Carlton Oval, not one but two historic stands are slated for demolition, the 1932 Heatley Stand, similar in design to the North Melbourne stand, and the Gardiner Stand, which was built in 1909. One of the oldest grandstands in Melbourne, it is possibly the oldest grandstand remaining directly associated with the formal development of VFL, being built only 10 years after its formation. It also has an unusual lattice wrought-iron structure supported on cast-iron columns, and incorporates medallions stamped with the crests of both the football and the cricket clubs. '
