To be fair to the providers of our inside info most of them said he had the job if he wanted it.......he didnt want it.....well maybe he did until Leigh Matthews put in his two cents worth and Wayne Carey kept bagging the list.

Vossy WAS a done deal
Remember the time he went on Footy Classified in late June? Around then an in prinicple agreement was reached between Vossy and Carlton..
he obviously got cold feet between that time and now..

I'm not too disappointed, although the boss of the AFL has allegedly told the club how impressed he was with Vossys work with the AIS kids.

Anyways- the club will move forward- they have this air of confidence now where nobody is off limits and approaches will continue to be made to anyone and everyone who is suitable for the role.

Also- expect Fev to stay if Ratts is appointed coach

JK, what gave him the "cold" feet however? Was it the media frenzy?

I'm more than happy with Ratten though.

So what's your take on McKenna ADP. IS he senior coach material? How highly do C'wood people rate him?

Haven't we read on here in the last couple of days that McKenna is not highly rated at all and he's unlikely to get a senior gig?

I'm sure our selection panel will be able to establish the accuracy of any such suggestion for themselves if/when they speak to him.

No, we have many posters here who are far better qualified and dont even need to talk to him to decide if hes any good or not!

Can anyone confirm if he has withdrawn from coaching entirely next year?
Or has he just withdrawn from the Carlon position?

Well Ratten should get the job now. Would be extremely disppointed if we went for McKenna instead.

Surrey, as much as I love Ratts, let's just all take a deep breath and see what happens in the next few games.

Sure, the boys were great last week, but that was to be expected in the "honeymoon" game. Riley won his first with the Dees, didn't he? His team was crippled with injury too, as we all noticed. What's happened since?

Not to mention Freo doing the impossible and beating Crows at AAMI first up for Harvey. Bad Freo turned up last week.

Pride also clocked in last week after the Lions disgrace and subsequent media hammering. Hell, even under Pagan we would bounce back after a shocker, e.g. beating Crows at AAMI in 2004 after Aints beat us by 108 pts week before.

I WANT Ratts to be the man, trust me, but FFS let's get a decent look at him. Knee jerk reactions have crucified us in the past few years, highlighted by Pagan Wizz Cup three year deal :garthp:

I was so relaxed at the choice between Voss and Ratten that I almost felt like I was on a deckchair in a tropical oasis being massaged by a bevvy of beautiful women. Now that Voss has ruled himself out, I feel just as relaxed that we will choose Ratten and that he will do wonders for us.

It will be great to have a legend of the Club as our coach, and if anyone can instill passion in the team then I have confidence that Brett Ratten is the man to do it.

BC, I'm not making my judgement call on one game.
Believe me that all I have heard and seen about Ratts is good, extremely good. Melbourne people are still talking about him.

I was leaning towards Voss, only for the new fresh look, but I am more than happy with a Ratts lead team. SOS come on down!

Good news I reckon. Voss has not been impressive, be it as a special comments man on Channel 10, be it on Radio or be it on Footy Classified. I think Ratten will be fantastic as Head Coach - appoint him now. Ad for assistants I would love to see the Blues get Nathan Buckley down to MC Labour Park - Buckley is all class and it would pi$$ off big time the blokes from Lexus Stadium or whatever they call themselves.

Email circulating from the club:

Quote:
This is to confirm that Michael Voss has advised the Carlton Football Club that he has decided not to seek a coaching role in 2008.

Carlton CEO Greg Swann said he appreciated and respected Michael's decision.

"We have previously advised that we are concentrating on a short list of candidates for the senior coaching role in 2008 and our focus remains on this short list. Michael's decision does not alter the Club's position or the process, it means there is one less candidate for consideration," Swann
said.

Voss hasn't played this one too well. Should really have toned down the 'I'm ready and my team is ready' talk until he knew he'd commit.

Now, it just looks like he wanted to do it, but was talked out of it by wiser heads. Perhaps wiser heads who covet having him as an assistant coach at their club?
