The end of the year can't come soon enough after reading these incredibly inspiring and positive comments by Pagan.

How many AFL coaches talk down their chances before a game?

Pagan left to hedge his Betts
Quote:
"If we had Nick Stevens, that's an extra 25 possessions.

"It's interesting. Nick played in the first seven games that we played, including the pre-season, and we won six of them.

"Nick hasn't been there and we've lost them all. It's about the domino effect it has with the gap out of the midfield."

Pagan said the team would also somehow have to steal possessions that the loss of Betts will cost them.

"Eddie's been terrific for us, he's very high in tackles inside 50 (metres), very high on ground balls inside 50 and he's capable of kicking goals," Pagan said.

"You've heard plenty of coaches say, 'you can't do anything about it, just move on and do the best with what you've got'."

But Pagan said the club had no obvious replacement for Betts.

"We haven't. That's the reality but we'll manipulate and adjust and try to pinch 1 1/2 goals and tackles that he achieves for his team each week," he said.

How many coaches refer to NAB Cup games as a form line?

Sounds like he is just being honest which is a breath of fresh air IMO.

Of course!

Pagan can't do anything right by most of you guys anyway so it wouldn't matter what he said - that's me being honest!

Spot on Bunks.

All of this stuff about "no other coach would be negative about his players" is rubbish. Have Daniher and Wallace noted that they're battling because of injuries and inexperienced replacements - you bet. Has Lyon floated injuries as an issue. You bet. But each has had 22 players each week. How dare they run down those who cross the line

Stating the bleeding obvious is hardly treasonous.

What's wrong with saying...

"Well gee, you know, as one door closes, another one opens and we've got some great young guys who are looking to step up and I know they'll be able to do it."

i.e. instilling some confidence

And then you'd say that that Eddie's due back in 5 weeks, and that would crush his confidence. Imagine, a senior player who's played in almost 50 straight games and the coach is suggesting that an inexperienced player is just as good as him  Way to go coach

You've just managed to crush the confidence of a young indigenous player just as he is feeling depressed about sustaining a painful injury with all the doubts about how he'll come back you have when you cop a bad one.

Are you an idiot, coach  Why can't you give Eddie the respect he is due and acknowledge his contribution to the team????? You are a disgrace, and the sooner you go the better

You're right!

We will break our membership record and get a big crowd this weekend when supporters pick up the paper and read Pagan's comments about our chances. Pagan should be selling the team better than this and promoting young guns such as Simpson, Murphy, Walker, Blackwell and Gibbs as potential replacements for Stevens.
