Disappointing that threre were only 7200-odd there on a fine Saturday night ('Roos claimed 13,000 versus Collingwood)...but;
1. We outnumbered North's supporters 2 to 1. There were lots of kids in Navy Blue, and, for the first time in years, there was widespread optimism and genuine wholehearted support for our boys. We were willing those kids on - and they delivered.
2. The cohesiveness of the defence was outstanding. No indecision, no confusion. Setanta was terrific. He beat Thompson hands down and just keeps improving with every run. True, he gave away a few frees, but he's a quick learner. And he's already a leader down back. At times he reminds me of Peter Dean with his passion and his commitment. 1AW, Hoops and Scotland were terrific too.
3. I agree with everyone else regarding our future captain. Marc Murphy is all class. For the next ten years, it will be worth the admission price just to watch him play.
4. I watched Hartlett closely and wasn't disappointed. He's got it all physically, and knows where to run to advantage. Very impressive.
5. Eddie Betts, I love you. Mr Perpetual Motion. Never stops running, never stops presenting, and works as hard without the ball as when he has it. Enthusiastic, brave and skilful. He was inspirational on Saturday night.
6.Brendan, Brendan, Brendan. Please big fella - forget about staging for free kicks and trying to provoke the opposition. Yes, you are a star full-forward. Lead up, mark the ball, kick the goal. Do this and we will love you. Act like a prat, and we might not. It's your call. On Saturday night, you were sensational.
7. We may not have the tallest or most skilful ruck division, but against the 'Roos, Cameron Cloke and Cain Ackland worked their butts off. In 2007, they at least will be competitive, honest and committed. And that's a really good start.
Get on the Blues on Saturday night, people - wherever the game is played. The Lions will be praying for a wet track in Brisbane.
If it's at the Dome or anywhere else in the dry, the Blues will have too much firepower.
