Yeah, he was pretty good for the Kangaroos, Round 1 2005.

Did Greg Wells play well against us?

May have been a State match when Bruce was all but finished. Seem to remember it was awful with Sticks bagging something like 10.

One superstar player who I never remember tearing us apart was Wayne Carey.

SOS would always nullify Carey as far as I can recall, and even create and rebound off him.

Carey is lower in my estimation of him as a player because of this.

I always judge players on what I've seen, not what Mike Sheehan writes about them.

Carey was obviously a star, but I'll never rate him as highly as others because he never had the big games against us. I remember Peter Dean doing well on him early in 1995, wet day at the MCG. SOS only played on Carey later that year when Dean was injured.

SOS also played on Carey prior to 1995, and always did well against him.

Heaver really stands out as an obvious one; and Hickers was Geelong's best in the '95 GF IMO.

To add to that SOS is the reason guys like Thornton and any other full back we ever have in the near future will be labeled 'not a true Full back', 'more of a 3rd tall half back flanker'.

There was that game when Plugger kicked 10 goals 8 behinds on SOS - I think it was at Moorabbin (could have been at VFL Park).

Pretty sure it was in 1990 or 91, Parkin left SOS on Plugger and said if he left anyone else on him would have kicked 20 goals.

I think this was the only time I have seen Plugger "pants" SOS.

I recall Dorotich giving Plugger an absolute hiding one day - I am pretty sure that was at VFL Park.

Sticks kicked 10 on Bruce Doull in 1985 playing for South Australia against the Vics....Bruce would have been 34/35.

We were rapt....knowing he was going to be ours.

Not bad for an old boy playing State Football in his second last season of VFL Football, although I'm pretty sure the 10 goals by Stick happened in 1984.

I'm pretty sure that Wes Lofts and John Elliott - spent a lot of time with Sticks to get him over for the 1985 season - but he wouldn't budge till he got Glenelg a flag.

I have a recollection of Mark Arceri causing us problems in the very late eighites. We never had a match up for those quick little crumbers until Matty Hogg came along.

Shame the great man couldn't have gone one more year and had 5 flags to his name.

Hey!.....you could be right but.....we knew he was coming to Carlton that day against Doull in the Interstate game.....no doubts at all.

Are you sure that was 85 Warby? I have a feeling it was 84.

OK guys....we were all wrong!.....it was 1983; the same year he lost the Magarey Medal for getting suspended for hitting Gary McIntosh.

In that game ; he beat Doull, Chris Mew and Gary Pert to kick 10 goals.

Sticks signed a "Form Four" with us in 1981.....which is why I recall knowing he was "our" player.

That sound more likely Warby.

South Australia kicked 11 goals in 85, 16 in 84 and 26 in 83.

He would have only been 19 in 83

But I'm pretty sure that the seagull (Shane O'Sullivan) spotted him at the South Australian Schoolboy Championships in 1979, after Wes Lofts told him to go and find the next Royce Hart - Shane O, said I think I have found someone better. I reckon Shane O, was right. 8)
